Disney haven’t licensed it, @AppleScruffJunior, they are one of the producers – Disney, Apple, and Wingnut Film Productions are who’s behind it. So likely to be available for streaming on Disney+ for much more than a year.

The current push will be to get people to subscribe to Disney+, any announcement will come later. Since no home release has been announced yet, post-Christmas would seem the likely bet.

US current affairs programme 60 Minutes have put out a brief feature (4:31) on the documentary. Includes some footage that we haven’t seen yet.

I’m really hoping they’re not going to sugarcoat everything with this, Because while it may have not been all stormy weather during the sessions, the arguments still did happen. No one can deny that.

The arguments are said to be there, it’s meant to be just the footage as recorded all in chronological order. Do bear in mind that the bootlegs have already shown there were very good times between the four along with the all the narky and argumentative moments.

I wonder what John would think of this. Probably something like “still talking about that Beatles garbage”.
Seriously though, deep down I think he’d be amazed and honoured if he was looking down from the clouds, knowing he helped leave something so loved and everlasting.

Interesting article in yesterday’s Irish Times, part-preview, part look at where January 1969 sits in Beatles mythology.
The last paragraph may set your mind at ease a little, @Let It Bleed:
“Everyone sort of thinks it’s a whitewash,” because the Beatles have authorised the film, Jackson says with a laugh. “But actually it’s almost the exact opposite. It shows everything that Michael Lindsay-Hogg could not show in 1970. It’s a very unflinching look at what goes on.”

I didn’t realise till I saw a news report on ITN (UK) News tonight but they had a special premiere of the Get Back documentary in Leicester Square, London tonight with Paul in attendance. Dhani, Zak and Noel Gallagher also there.
I saw someone post about being there on Twitter and some interesting news (assuming I understood them correctly and this isn’t already widely known).. see below.. SPOILER ALERT ….
They’ve included the whole of the rooftop gig.

The inclusion of the rooftop gig has been known for a long time, Leppo. I think Apple announced it in one of their press releases for the film even before Disney got involved and the project changed.

Oh I didn’t know. So it was already known it will include the full 42 minute set?

So, the premiere last night was of a 100-minute long version of the documentary according to The Daily Beatle.
Some speculation over whether it was the film as originally edited for the cinema, and which we would have seen last year were it not for the pandemic, or an edit of the series.
Should be mentioned that the series may be a bit longer than the trailed three two-hour episodes, as the Irish Times article I linked to in post 270 refers to it being “a seven-hour-plus project that will land on the Disney+ streaming service next week”, while The DB blog says “it was expanded into a six hours (some say close to eight hours) long documentary series in three parts to be streamed on Disney+.”
Even now, so close to release, there’s still things we’re not quite sure of.
The DB also suggests that Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s Let It Be will receive a standalone DVD/Blu-ray release next year, while the Get Back DVD/Blu-ray/UHD Blu-Ray release will include an extra 6 hours of footage (though I’d suggest some of that may include Making of…, Restoration, etc., features).

This has got to be the biggest event for Beatles fans since the ‘Anthology’ series was announced. And for once Apple and Disney have played it perfectly with the build-up where details have slowly came out and massively met what the hardcore fans have been fantasising over for possibly decades. Hours and hours of unseen never before never bootlegged footage!! It’s this type of release that sees those fans very willingly throwing the cash without much hesitation or grumbles.
I think the only way this will ever be topped is if Apple ever open the vaults and let us hear what remains unreleased musically with little restriction.

Tomorrow it’ll be one week to the release of Part 1, and on Thanksgiving, to boot!
I might actually include that as something to be grateful for at the dinner table speech.
But in any respect, I certainly have a feeling to experience what a lot of older fans on here must have felt during the Anthology campaign, waiting for the documentary TV broadcast, the albums, the singles, the home video, and finally the book. It’s something that really puts a sense of what Beatlemania truly was like, even if not quite as intense and crushing as the original run.
Some cynics may scoff and say, “It’s not Beatlemania that’s back, it’s Beatle marketing,” but I don’t agree with that. I think this is every bit as valid.
