I’m counting on Dusney+ offering a free (at least 3 day) trial. I have no use for it otherwise.
I wonder if it will be available on Disney+ after those 3 days.
I thought it did but apparently Disney did away with it months ago. Looks like it’s hoping someone you know has an account you can use or we all use the same log-in after setting up a gofundme page. Maybe mods can claim the subscription cost from Joe as a work expense.
Yes, we need to know the content of the movie to better discharge our moderator duties.
Maybe he will tell us the location of the office liquor cabinet key too. Surely we’ve earned that.

While this looks amazing and shows the camaraderie, I do hope they re-release the original movie as well. I enjoy the original because it shows more of the dynamic where everyone was getting sick to death of Paul. This movie could be another of Paul’s attempts to rewrite history.
Of course, if the movie shows the same footage in a wider context, it could show that the problem was with the original narrative. But I find that hard to believe since they did seem to be divided 3 to 1 against Paul in their business affairs.
Peter Jackson as director doesnt rewrite history. And from the original movie and books about the session you could tell that there were many problems with Johns and Georeges attitude too. In fact John and George had a major fallout.
I recommend the Youtube Channel “Pop goes the 60’s”. They guy has analyzed and commented on the actual recording tapes:

The problem of the Beatles wasnt Paul alone. In fact he was the guy who tried to hold them together. It was by all means all of them beeing fed up and tired by the dynamics and routines and of course the fact that they wanted to go in other directions in terms of music, art and creativity. I dont get why there is a need to give all the crap to Paul when its told by the actual lads that it was in fact all 4 of them (maybe Ringo not so much) who contributed to the fallout, George and John as much as Paul.
Concerning Allen Klein one could say that Paul was right about everything.

True. I think the differences between the three were smaller than their shared difference with Paul.

Another thing, from the trailer, that i don’t get is why are there pictures of the young Beatles? I mean… are we gonna have , as they did with Eight Days A Week , another review of their early days, à la Anthology? I just hope they don’t waste a minute of those glorious six hours in putting people in context.

I think there will be a small amount of context, certainly to the rooftop since it was 2 1/2 (not three, that bugs me) years since their last performance. There is also a lot of memories caught on the tapes which might allow for pictures of the four younger (John singing the opening lines from ‘Help !’ would fit for example). I’m not advocating it, just seeing how it could work.
If it spends twenty minutes going thru the early years I’d rather a message came on screen saying “for all those who don’t know previous stuff go and watch ‘EDAY”.
Ringo messing about with Heather on the drums is up there in the seriously adorable tier with John and Nicola on the ‘MMT’ bus. I’m sure a little is in the original movie as it looks familiar.
Do we know how the parts are broken down, is it 1: Twickenham, 2: Apple, 3 Rooftop?

If you haven’t seen it what Jackson does in They Shall Not Grow Old with originally silent, 13fps b&w 100 year-old hand cranked footage is both truly amazing and completely sobering, he is a natural choice to resurrect moldering footage and re-frame it for current standards and this trailer shows why.

I have not. I don’t know what’s written there and if Paul gets all the blame. For me its clear and apparent from conversations and the sheer fact what happend after the break up that everybody of the 4 lads had their contribution to the break up. Was it John alone? No…it eighter wasnt Paul alone too. It was bunch of things combined from all 4 of them leading to them beeing fed up with each other plus things that came from the outside.

The three of them worked together soon after the breakup but no one worked with Paul until 1973 I think.
Because in 1973 they came around and saw reason for why Paul acted the way he did with Klein…

That could have been only for the trailer too. Sometimes filmtrailers work with pics and scenes of past stuff to make the circle complete (STAR WARS Episode III teaser, Indy 4 teaser). But I guess there will be a short retrospect to how they did get where they are in the docu. But I hope its a very small segment too, we so much stuff from their early years because of them touring and giving press conferences and so on. I really want this to focus on the Get Back sessions as much as possible.
About the parts: I dont think there was an overview about what part contains what. From what we can see in the trailer though is that Jackson builds up a narrative which seems to end with the big climax: the rooftop.

Correct. Throw some pics and clips in to get the full picture and make a full circle.

Peter Jackson’s Hobbit treatment does actually concern me a bit. He put Legolas into the Hobbit as filler for the bland side plots he invented to stretch the source material into three movies.
My biggest worry is that with all of the tapes and footage that he gets to sift through, (not us) @Shamrock Womlbs prediction is ominous. If he wastes a second of this series with rehashed anthology and 8DaW footage and interviews trying to create a ‘Peter Jackson Magnum Opus’ instead of actually chronicling the making of Let It Be /Get Back and the endless stream of video and audio recordings from that time.
They’ve already held back on the deluxe album, they better give us a boatload of footage.

The bit with Heather and Ringo was in the original LIB film, I can tell because I’ve seen bootlegs of the original film. Jackson said he would stay away from using footage exactly the same as the original “except when it’s unavoidable”, as in there is no alternative footage or angles to use.
From all appearances, it will keep the same three-act structure as the original film, in doing Act I-Twickenham, the winter of discontent and the moment where they truly WERE miserable; Act II-Apple, where everything turned around, the vibe improved, and they could simply focus on the music and enjoy themselves again; and Act III-Rooftop (with some footage setting things up), the Hollywood ending. I imagine like the original film, they’ll probably do the January 31 indoor performances before the rooftop footage, because the rooftop is the livelier set and better to end on.
