Put on ‘Made On Merseyside’ to see what it was like but Pete Best had me turning over. Not because of the anecdote he was telling but I know that sooner or later he will be on screening claiming he has no idea why he was fired and all the other crap he comes out with. It’s boring enough listening to someone repeat the same garbage endlessly but when there are hundreds of books and explanations of why Pete was fired it becomes a chore to bother with and I stop listening.
Sorry Pete but you were fired because Ringo was a better drummer and a better Beatle. History shows it. Now shut up and get on with your life for the first time in 30 odd years.

For those who have Netflix. Count Me In is coming August 24th. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6889042/
Description from website:
Drummers…..from heartbeat to backbeat, caveman to techno rave man, rhythm has always driven our world. We take a journey with the players and the personalities; their influences; the music and culture; the beauty, energy and awe-inspiring skills that have shaped our rhythmic history and continue to inspire a whole new generation of players. From the advent of Jazz to the Rock and Roll, that morphed through the ’60s and ’70s, we explore the likes of Ringo, Charlie Watts, Keith Moon, John Bonham and Ginger Baker as they drove their rhythms across the world and changed music forever. You can have rhythm without music but you can’t have music without rhythm.

Ohhh fab, I haven’t seen that ‘…at the BBC’ before.
It’s new. Would imagine a lot of clips won’t have been seen since they were first broadcast, especially things like when he was on ‘Wogan’ in the 80’s.

I’m no doubt in a very small minority but, looking at ‘Paul At The BBC’, I’m disappointed that so much of the content is covers of Beatles numbers when there is so much solo material in the vaults that could have been shown. I guess that’s not what the general BBC Saturday night audience wants but it’s not what I was expecting never mind hoping for.
Reminds me of the 1976 ‘Best of George Harrison ‘ that George hated because side one consisted of all Beatles numbers.

This may have come up before, but has anybody listened to the podcast “Your Own Personal Beatles”?
It features different TV personalities / comedians / musicians talking about their own journey with the band. I’m finding it interesting hearing how the guests of different ages have each discovered the Beatles’ music. (Particularly enjoyed a story from producer Guy Chambers, who went to Quarry Bank sixth form in the 1970s and had the same art teacher as John. The teacher had stored John’s old desk, which was covered in his graffiti, and showed this to Guy when he realised he was a fan. What a sight that must have been!)
The only downside for me is that, while the two hosts are clearly fans of the band, they both admittedly have gaps in their Beatles knowledge and have whole albums they don’t know very well. There are sometimes inaccuracies which I can find frustrating, so I can only imagine how some of you die hard experts would feel! Nevertheless there are some really engaging conversations and I’m very much enjoying listening to it, and I’m not normally a fan of podcasts!
@Joe I wonder if you know anything about the podcast or hosts, being a UK journalist with similar interests?! I’m pretty sure your book has been mentioned before, and I think you’d be a fascinating guest!
I think it's great you're going through a phase,
and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple

Currently on the iPlayer is ‘John Legend and The Beatles’ which is available for another 4 days.
In an exclusive interview John Legend talks about the influence that John Lennon , Paul McCartney & George Harrison have had on his music, from learning to play Yesterday at the age of 8 to the way that they shaped his songwriting and methods of working in the studio. In between, he picks his own favourite Beatles songs, discusses the songwriting of Lennon, McCartney & Harrison at length, gives listeners a unique insight into his own songwriting and lets us in on the one song that he thinks sums John Legend up more than any other!
Beatles music is played in full but going by that description listeners won’t be hearing a Ringo tune.

And for those in the UK (sorry rest of world… ) David Batty’s 2007 documentary My Generation is on BBC2 tonight at 11pm.
Narrated by Michael Caine (who’s among the talking heads in the documentary as well), it looks at the evolution of the Swinging Sixties from a London/UK point of view. Paul is also among the talking heads, alongside people like Twiggy and David Bailey.
Seen it before, and quite an interesting look at this Sceptred Isle and its capital during a few remarkable years when we were at the centre of the cultural and social universe.

Spotlight (sky channel 365) has a programme called ‘Music Legends’ focusing on the Beatles which I’ve stumbled across. Thought it was a collection of live performances (I think that’s cheaper and you don’t have to go thru the usual route of seeking permission from Apple/Universal since a ton of home release films have live performances – maybe free due to the copyright laws) until ‘And I Love Her ‘ from the ‘AHDN ‘ film appeared.
I’ve missed most of part one and no idea when part two is on but these shows are regularly repeated

This brought a tear to my eye. First, hearing Paul and George harmonising, then Richy being so sweet and direct: “I like hanging out with you”. Then I found myself imagining what it could have been if John were still alive at the time .

To celebrate Paul’s 80th birthday an episode of ‘A Dance Thru The Decades‘ focuses on his music with the Beatles, Wings, solo and as a guest artist – plus ‘Bad Boys ‘ by Wham!! I have no idea why that Wham track is on it – maybe they got confused with the Beatles ‘Bad Boy ‘.
