I’ve just had a heads-up via email about “Sir Paul McCartney ‘s upcoming documentary series, McCartney 3, 2, 1. It launches on Hulu on 16 July 2021.”
Is this generally known about? I couldn’t see anything online about it, and I don’t have Hulu so I don’t know if there have been trailers. I was contacted by someone involved in the project, so it’s definitely happening.
It could be the six-part doc series with Rick Rubin that was reported in December 2020:

well then, should I be the one to make the clickbait article “the dark secrets behind these three Paul McCartney Albums”.
In all seriousness, if this is in a similar vein of the ‘Classic Albums’ series from AXS then this is a real gem.

I do know that MPL don’t like to promote more than one product at the same time (unless, like with some of the PM Archive Collection, they’re coming out at the same time). The Beatles and their associated acts are similar – they still operate on the 1960s policy of getting out of each other’s way to allow everyone some time in the spotlight.
McCartney’s just finished plugging McCartney III , and there has just been the Ram 50th anniversary and reissue. Once that’s been and gone I’d imagine there’ll be a big announcement on this new doc, to allow everyone the chance to get behind it without distractions.
Hulu haven’t confirmed it, but haven’t exactly denied it either

In the article they mention that Hulu confirmed the series in a statement for Variety. @Joe is a lock for most updated on Beatles news this year. He called this one

Yeah, it’s the same series I posted about in the News Thread last December.
Variety, Rolling Stone and Deadline all carry the following statement by Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment’s president Craig Erwich:
Never before have fans had the opportunity to hear Paul McCartney share, in such expansive, celebratory detail, the experience of creating his life’s work — more than 50 years of culture-defining music. To be an observer as Paul and Rick Rubin deconstruct how some of the biggest hits in music history came to be is truly enlightening.
While Rolling Stone commented:
The six-episode series will find McCartney going over the entirety of his career with Rubin, from his work with the Beatles and Wings to his 50-plus years as a solo artist. Per a release, the pair will also discuss the songwriting influences and personal relationships that have inspired McCartney’s work over the years.
It is directed by Emmy-award winning Zachary Heinzerling, and Paul and Rick Rubin are among the directors.
This is the trailer Paul released on 16 December last year:

Very much doubt it, sir walter, as a group of Forumpublians voted to remove the Beatles News category from future polls in January, arguing that the History category covered it without it needing its own category. The main reason there’s been less from me in the News thread; it ain’t that the stories haven’t been there, just that I can’t be bothered to spend the time chasing up a lot of the smaller ones.
(Not that I’m suggesting this is a smaller one.)

Hula is a US-only provider, @meanmistermustard. Don’t know if it’s still the case, but when they launched the rights to too much of their content was already owned by other UK providers. There has to be a reasonable chance they’ll do a deal with the BBC or something. If not, it is possible to get it using a VPN.
(I was looking it up last night.)

I just realised they’re majority-owned by Disney. Given the possibility of the Peter Jackson doc coming to Disney+ (the trailer was front and centre on it late last year), it’s not impossible that this series will also be shown there. Disney+ previously put out a couple of Taylor Swift shows (City Of Lover and Folklore live), so they’re clearly not against one-offs that aren’t part of their usual offerings.
Otherwise, I’d imagine it might get shown on terrestrial TV here. Channel 4 or BBC Four would seem a fairly good fit.

You could download a VPN that hides your location, or if you have good adblocking and anti-virus stream it illegally.

I just think there has to be an announcement of a more international distribution deal coming. The idea that it will only be released in the US seems ridiculous in this day and age. All six episodes are likely to be on The Pirate Bay within a day or two of their release.
I think they will keep it exclusive to Hula for maybe 4-6 weeks, and then announce how others around the world can get to see it.

Near to the end of that trailer, Rick Rubin reads:
Paul is one of the most innovative bass players that ever played bass, and the stuff that’s going on now is ripped off from his Beatle period. He’s a great, great musician.
and Rick tells Paul that is from John Lennon .
The first sentence is close to John’s comments to David Sheff in September 1980, published in the January 1981 issue of Playboy:
Ringo is a damn good drummer. He is not technically good, but I think Ringo’s drumming is underrated the same way Paul’s bass playing is underrated. Paul was one of the most innovative bass players ever. And half the stuff that is going on now is directly ripped off from his Beatles period. He is an egomaniac about everything else about himself, but his bass playing he was always a bit coy about. I think Paul and Ringo stand up with any of the rock musicians. Not technically great — none of us are technical musicians. None of us could read music. None of us can write it. But as pure musicians, as inspired humans to make the noise, they are as good as anybody.
but did John ever describe Paul as a “great, great musician”?
Is there another interview/reference for that description?

Some punter actually offers up downloads of the episodes on Pauls twitter feed LOL
But very much worth a watch, nothing hugely revelatory but just a lot of fun hearing them chat and Paul reminisce about his times in the studio recording key tracks. I loved watching his reaction to the tracks coming on!! Some nice archive photography that really jumps out from the black and white film. Frustratingly there are points where you wish Rubin had kept going as some interesting stuff was touched on, but the focus always stays on the music where Paul gives John and George their credit as guitarists and the beatles as innovators.
It’s fun watching him realise it’s him playing the guitar solo on ‘another girl’ and then pick holes in it. On the other hand he didn’t seem to have any memory of playing bass on ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps ‘ and the suggestion is that John might have dubbed it on.
Some of the HULU stuff is on Disney and some isn’t – so make sure you catch this next month guys.

This may be one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Even a casual Beatle fan will find it engrossing.
The cinematography is spectacular and the musical insights are fabulous.
It’s great to watch it in conjunction with Get Back : McCartney the 26 year old vs McCartney the 79 year old.
