I saw a film today, oh, boy…

Don't shoot me but, Magical Mystery Tour is a horrible film. I have to fast-forward it to the musical parts. I'm so badly impressed with it that I wish I didn't see it.

Opinions?

The following people thank Marcelo for this post:

I loved the whole movie, mainly because it was summer when I first watched it. It seems more of a summerish movie than a christmas movie.

I haven't seen it, but my siblings watched it in parts on YouTube. I've seen the I Am The Walrus ” video more times than I can count, though.

I actually like it. I think if you watch it not as a movie, but just as something that's meant to be surreal and pointless, it's quite a fun movie

Ooo, too bad. a-hard-days-night-paul-3

If anyone is interested, it looks like there's a site for the Magical Mystery Tour Revisited fan edit. At the moment, it has … cover art. I hope there's more soon.

I agree, it is quite pointless and mostly unfollowable, but it's fun to watch when you have nothing to do.

In The Beatles: Unseen Archive book I own, It says they made Magical Mystery Tour because of Brian Epsteins  Death of a drug overdose, So after discussing their future (since he was their band manager for those who have no idea who this mystical Brian is —-> brian-epstein) They Decided to make something 'magical' and it was harshly reviewed by the critics. At least doing MMT helped lift their spirits, am I right? a-hard-days-night-ringo-10

Anyways, unless I read it wrong, thats what the book told me.

I love surreal movies, pointless movies, really. I love Haruki Murakami, 4ºC Studio anime, and so on. This film -I'm really afraid- doesn't apply to this subject. It's bad. Thanks for your opinions!

I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

Ok I just saw the movie.

What did the Beatles smoke to do this?? I agree with Marcelo. The only bits I enjoyed were the musical bits, I liked Flying . And not enough George. blue-meanie

Edit : I forgot to mention. The only part that truly made me laugh was George and John's reaction to the striptease… and then Your Mother Should Know .. I was like “WTF???” It was so silly that I started laughing like crazy LOL!!!

My favorite scene in that movie was with that little girl and John and George on the bus. The movie should not be taken seriously. I started screaming I first watched it because I didn't get it. I saw it again and just laughed. It's an absurd film. But it's the Beatles doing what they do best: being creative.

I made the mistake of reading reviews about it before watching it, and my mind was so prepared to watching something crappy. It definitely is weird. I won't say that I get the point they were trying to make – if there was any! But there were parts that I liked, others that I was just thinking what the hell! But now I want to watch it again!

I quite liked the scenes of them being magicians :):)

Do I have to keep on talking till I can't go on!

I watched it once when I was a bit stoned and I really analyzed it. It seems to just be describing an acid trip, like with the blood vessel or whatever that guy was called. It’s like, there will be good parts and there will be bad parts, but it will end eventually so you might as well enjoy yourself.
I don’t think the movie is really good or anything, although I seriously doubt the intended goal was to make a good movie. It’s interesting, makes you think a bit and, like Paul said, in no other place can you see John Lennon perform I Am The Walrus , so that’s good enough for me I suppose.

That's a good point Gniknus. To me, the best part of the movie is the song segments, not only for the music (obviously) but the videos (although now a bit dated) were very well done. Whoever had the idea of having the Beatles wearing white tuxedos and dancing downstairs Your Mother Should Know was a true genius. heart

Hahahahaha!

I'm going to go watch that video now.

And then I'll watch the “Your Mother Should Know ” video.

Parts like the Sargeant sketch are a bore and the stripper scene with George, John and others leering over a woman stripping is nothing short of creepy. Therefore i avoid it.

The music videos are good, apart from Blue Jay Way which seems to drag, with IATW being the deserved highlight, one reason being that it matches the song really well instead of it being just anything to fill 4 minutes.
