MMT is crazy. No plot, just a mish mash of different scenes. Hardly surprising it flopped, given that the Beatles had no experience of making a film completely on their own before. They gave it a try,it just didn’t work out.
Best parts of the film for me are the music videos,or the scene with the stripper and the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah band. The rest of it? Poor

Knowing full well there is no award winning plot, I still enjoy this film every time I watch it. It’s like a series of YouTube videos featuring The Beatles songs, candid moments and plenty of goofing off. In nearly every scene there are so many people and so many things going on in the background, it’s easy to spot something I hadn’t noticed before – a facial expression, a gesture, etc… It’s usually something that makes me smile or even laugh out loud.
If you go into this film with that approach, it may make it more enjoyable for you as well.

I agree with Zig. The only scene I did not care for was the endless marathon scene. It seemed to go on forever. And it was never clear who won the race.
In another era, MMT would have made a great straight-to-video feature. As alluded to earlier, it now reminds me of music video collections other artists have put out such as We’re All Devo or Video Rewind by the Rollling Stones.
You are all my friends.

I don’t think we’re really supposed to care about a winner, the whole race is obviously a ridiculous unruly farce with nobody minding the nonexistent rules.

Even that scene makes me smile when I recall Ringo telling the story of how everyone on the bus in that scene was terrified as he was driving it and accelerating far too fast around the corners. You can see the bus leaning as it goes around the track. Funny stuff.

They needed not worry for Rings had experience with the race track… There were stories that he’d driven the Indianapolis track all night during one of their U.S. Tours… People make Ringo out to be the “most down to earth” within the group but, in truth, he was the Madman of the Bunch…:-)

Hello pals! Any news of MMT (movie) 50th anniversary celebrations? I was expecting something from the BBC but nothing seems to be stirring….
We are getting as much as Apple allowed for the 50th-anniversary celebrations of ‘Revolver ‘ and is why I’m holding back on my excitement for Apple doing anything for any album bar ‘Pepper’.

Published on 28 December 1967, Guardian critic Keith Dewhurst reviews the film, and is among the few who doesn’t hate it…
My feelings on finding myself almost alone in praising the Beatles television film Magical Mystery Tour are amazement, and the sad conviction that as a mass the public is more stupid and ignorant than it is as individuals, and does not like to be told so.

I have a bad feeling about 2019. Almost guarenteed to be disappointed by LIB and Abbey Road reissues.

The ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ album was released in 1969 and Apple love their ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ merchandise so what better than you’re own exact miniature limited edition replica of the Yellow Submarine to celebrate it’s 50th-anniversary, exactly 0.2mm bigger than the one released for the 50th-anniversary release of the 1968 film.
There will also be a ton of ‘Yellow Submarine ‘ tea caddies, pot coolers, banana holders, toothbrush shavers, collars for fleas, toilet roll protectors, replica gum chewers, crocodile toenail clippers, wallpaper removal sprays and who knows what else for all Beatles fans to delight in.
And to be fair to Apple, ‘Let It Be ‘ is 2020 and we all know there is no chance all four of the executors will be able to lay aside their egos, and Apple to let the Beatles be seen to be unhappy with each other, for the release of the film on DVD/Blu-Ray. The Earth needs happy carefree Beatles to continue to spin on its axis and avoid world destruction.
