According to the press release its a Spring release for the US. Examiner.com has a page with the most recent details.
Hopefully the cd of demos and outtakes will be released seperately at some point and doesnt go down the whole John Lennon box route.

Thanks for the update. I bought the deluxe edition UK set last week from Amazon. I just have this feeling that though the Blu Ray and DVD versions will be released in the US in spring, I have a feeling the deluxe edition will not so why take a chance.

HELP ME PEOPLE!!! I don't have HBO, does anyone know any way I can watch it or do I have to wait for DVD??? This seemed like the most appropriate place to post this….
EDIT: I’m American, they apparently don’t do showings here. Grrrr…

Ok, having seen it all i can say is that's it is so much better than i thought it would be, even after seeing the trailers. Hilarious in parts, sad in others, touching, warm, honest, loving, heartfelt and other words i cant think of.
You could see the warmth, humour and love of George the whole way thru and how each person interviewed felt the same for George. Plus you come away with a new sense of understanding of and respect for George, his interests and his music. And what a collection of music.
There was so much footage that i hadnt seen before and you just want to see more. And on top of that you have unseen footage from the Anthology reunion, something i never thought i would see.
Think The Beatles Anthology 10 hours skimmed down to 3 1/2 hours, you want to see more as so much is missed out.
One sad note was that i missed John speaking. I know he's gone but seeing Paul, George and Ringo on screen made me think of John and how he couldnt be part of it. I still dont get it, after all those years i still dont get it. And then some nutter nearly got George and Olivia as well.
If you have any interest in music, not just George, you need to see this movie.

I had really high expectations and I definitely was not let down, it is incredible. It was so funny at times, George’s humour runs throughout it. It was amazing hearing everybody’s memories of George that I hadn’t heard about before, and how he seemed to have such a profound effect on everybody he met. The film was just so beautifully done as well. I came out of the cinema on a high.
I agree with meanmistermustard, I wanted there to be more, and there were things that were missed out etc. But that obviously had to be the case, otherwise it would have been endless.
I feel like I know George a bit better now, I don’t know how else to explain it. It was really something seeing it in a cinema, surrounded by people all with this joint admiration for such an amazing man. His personality is so present during the film, so it really felt like he was there.
EDIT: I also loved seeing Dhani's relationship with his dad, I found that so moving.

I think it's great you're going through a phase,

Thanks for the reviews. I won't be able to see it until it is released on DVD yet I am smiling already. Having read articles on how much Scorsese admired George and his work, I just knew he would do a great job with this.

I won't be able to see it until DVD release either, unless I break into someone who has HBO's house tonight and tomorrow night…I'm getting sort of desperate. Does anyone know when the DVD release will be, or if they're putting it out on iTunes?

The UK release date is 10th October. The US has been scheduled for Spring 2012, which sounds very far away considering its being shown just now.
Thanks for the info. Would you be able to get the UK release off Amazon or something if you’re American like me?

I'm looking forward to seeing it, especially because I don't know nearly enough about George's solo work. I read a review today that said it doesn't really let you in close to George, kind of like the people interviewed are respecting George's wish for privacy even after his death. Most people have said it's good, but not as great as Scorsese's Dylan biopic. Of course it wouldn't be, though, because George wasn't here to provide information like Dylan was. I still think it will be magnificent, and I can't wait for it to come out on dvd!

I don't believe the Deluxe Edition is going to be released in the US. It is a limited edition in the UK only. The standard DVD and Blu-Ray will be out in the spring. If you want all the extras that are in the special edition, I would buy it from Amazon in the UK.

You could sign up for HBO for a few days then cancel your order. They should pro-rate it. Of course, you will need a cable box.
