I remember absolutely loving it when saw it about its release in 1970.  I was 16 at the time and any movie footage of the Beatles was appreciated.. However, I saw it again at a film festival in 1984, when I just turned 30 and remember being very depressed about it – While it was great watching the band perform, the roof-top concert was great, but knowing the history and finally understanding what the heck was going on and that I was watching the self-destruction of my all-time favorite band just depressed me.

Welcome to the forum! Did you know The Beatles had broken up when you saw it?

I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

Hi guys, I have a question about the Let it be movie and forgive me if you have already talked about this. I wonder where the outtakes of the movie that sometimes are leaked in the web through youtube and instagram are coming from, since they are not shown in the official movie version. I am referring for example to the bit where John and Paul are joking with Help /Please Please Me , or all four while they’re listening to Get back recording and George is playing with his shoe, laughing with Ringo and John…As far as i recall they are not in the Anthology of UK television either.

Thanks!!!

I remember watching the original ‘let it be’ and bar the rooftop sequence it was a bit flat, a bit of a letdown. I feel a bit wary about this being revisited to make things a bit more comfortable for Paul (he came across as a right pain in the arse in the original)

Still, it’s a good opportunity to get the audio sorted out and put out a decent collection of the unreleased stuff from the sessions.

Anyone know when the release of the new Let It Be has been pushed back to?

Last I heard it was September.

Movie theaters? Netflix? …

It’s still set at 4 September, @Into the Sky with Diamonds, as a cinema release. Whether that has to change because unlocking doesn’t go as we’re hoping for we’re yet to discover. If not, we may see another postponement or Apple going for an online release, which I think is the more likely.

Thanks for the Links. I’ll revisit the movie that Weekend. Cant wait to check it out again after watching it years and years ago at YT when it was available there, split into many parts.

I honestly hope for the Peter Jackson movie to come out as soon as possible. But Corona in the US and UK is going strong. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Trump just dont get it done. So I think it will be pushed back as many Major movies just have been pushed back into the next year by now. Even movies schuedled for next year have been pushed back into 2022 and so on so I guess PJs Let it Be to be released by summer of 2021.

I guess and wish when they’ll release the home media Edition of the PJ movie, theyll release the original movie with it and they’ll give us a proper Let it Be anniversary Album (as they did with Pepper, White and Abbey) featuring a new mix, outtakes and maybe the Naked versions. I just ordered myself the Magical Mystery Tour movie on BD so when Let it be is released officially I’ll have a complete Collection of Beatles movie Releases.

So I watched the movie in the might from friday to saturday. Must say I remembered a bit more conversation from it but the majority of it is them playing (which great!)

What stood out for me:

– the conversation between Paul and George about Paul trying to help George and George responding with “I play whatever you like me to play”. That was the most tense moment in the movie I’d say.

– the conversation between Paul and John about playing in fron of an audience with Paul telling John that they built a wall between them and the audience and they need to do it again no matter how afraid they are. He reffered to George beeing very afraid of it.

– Paul beeing the absolute boss during the sessions. He’s the absolute #1 and says where they go. George is #2 and I was suprised to see John beeing so passive. He did his songs and stuff but he didnt contribute much to the creating of the songs, at least in what they showed in movie.

– The change of mood when they changed from Twickenham studios to the Apple studio which obviously made it much easier for them to get along again. The inculsion of Billy Preston for the sessions helped too.

– The rooftop concert is epic. They really seem in a good mood and enjoy playing. Paul is a beast up there really feeling it. John seems very happy too. George and Ringo also give everything. I love the moment when Ringo smokes and John wants to start “Dig A Pony ” but Ringo stops him to put the cigarette down.

– Its to short. I was watching it late but could have watched them even longer. When they play and when they dont argue there is this great chemistry between them we know from their early years. Its good to see them happy and enjoy their work. Its great watching them create their art.

I cant wait for a official release of the movie. The Rooftop Concert is legendary and needs a proper remastered release but the rest of the movie is history in the making too. I really hope that they’ll release it along Jacksons movie on Bluray.

An awesome review. Anytime I see Paul referred to as a “boss” and a “beast I know its gonna be good.

Thanks for the link. I watched the movie again just now, the first time in a while, and I don’t think things were too tense. Paul definitely was driving the band then. The others were just quieter. One of my favourite moments is Paul instructing John in how he wants the descending guitar playing on I Got A Feeling. John keeps his cool, doesn’t complain and meets the challenge. Goes to show even in a weakened condition he was made of strong stuff. Cannot wait for the Jackson movie.
