Hi,
Apologies if this has been covered before, and I realise it’s going back a bit, but I’m hoping somebody here can help with something that’s been bothering me for a while.
I received The Beatles 1+ 2Blu-ray/CD set when it came out and one thing that has bothered me is the Penny Lane video. When I watch it on my Blu-ray player (PS3), I can quite clearly see a few flickering vertical lines on the screen, especially in the first few seconds (e.g. where the barber’s pole is displayed). It looks like old film artifacts but I assumed the film was restored as part of this box-set.
I don’t know anybody else near me who has a copy I can compare with, but when I check on Youtube I don’t seem to see any lines or marks at all. It’s almost like I’m watching a bit of the original non-restored version. Or is this how it is?
All the videos play okay. It just jumped out at me when I watched the Penny Lane video.
Thanks
Chris.

The only explanations that I can come up with is that either your Blu Ray disc is scratched, presumably a microscopic scratch, possibly that happened during shipping or that it’s your PS3 that’s doing this and that if you inserted this Blu Ray into a normal player, it would be fine. to be fair though, is a couple of jailbars at the beginning of a song that much of a big deal.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

Yes, it is film artifact that they couldn’t clean up. I have to say it isn’t very noticeable to me. I wouldn’t have seen it if you hadn’t alerted me to it. It looks like soft, black vertical lines.

Hi,Thanks for checking. Much appreciated. Not sure if my lines are black or not. I’ll try to get a screengrab, just in case we’re not seeing the same thing.
Chris.
It probably is the same thing. I noticed it to the right of the barber’s pole. Darker than the blue sky, but not exactly black…which is why I said “soft black,” probably not the best way of expressing it.

Well there’s a thing…
Friend of mine has a PC with a blu-ray drive, so I went round to get some screengrabs of the offending lines and they weren’t there! Watching Penny Lane using the exact same disk, the pale hair-like lines at the start were very difficult to spot. I could see the soft black lines, but the pale ones visible previously were nowhere near as obvious as on my 42″ TV via the PS3. They were more like the examples I’d checked on Youtube.
I suspect there was no problem with my 1+ box. Just my PS3 and TV being a bit more demanding!
Thanks.
