You know you’re a real fan when …. I went to see AHDN for a second time this week. (Last week was with my daughter and her friends.)
I was again struck by the fabulous editing, the great camera angles, the lighting, the acting. The only negative – and this time I paid attention – was the little McCartney has to say and do relative to the others. There’s a great deal of emphasis on his good looks, and you can see how he was labelled the cute Beatle, but that’s nearly demeaning for someone with such world class talents.
All three Beatles have extended ‘face time’ in which you get to see their personalities. None for Paul. His solo seen was cut out (have to now see the outtakes).
Still, the movie zips along and is quite exhilarating.

Unfortunately, only the Miramax extras mention Paul’s deleted scene, and show a couple of stills from it. Otherwise, it’s lost to the ether.

You can read Paul’s deleted scene in the book of the film and its in the script that was included in the 2002 double dvd edition. It is here at number 73 (cant link to it directly). Incidentally, if you’ve never read the ‘AHDN ‘ or ‘Help !’ novels they are well worth it as some of the details are different and they include bits that isnt either movie (eg the Sam Ahab scene in ‘Help ‘). You’ll get them on ebay for little money.

I can see why it got cut. Shame they couldn’t have written a less rambly scene for him.

Thanks for the link to the script. I enjoyed reading George’s “solo” scene – my favorite part of the movie. The Simon character is hiarious.

Personally, I’d rather just skip to Magical Mystery Tour 50th.

If it hadn’t been for that army guy in the film shouting nonsense, I would too. As it happens, I would just wait.
By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

We just got a Help ! dvd remaster deluxe release with interviews and the like, really dont see what they can do to make a 50th release much better. Same as MMT which came out in 2012, doubt there will be much clamour for 50th anniversary when we’ve just got a 45th (pretty much anyway). How about instead they give us a 45th anniversary Let It Be .

That’s one of my favorite parts. Victor Spinetti was reprising a role he did in a play.

I was thinking more along the lines of theater screenings, which I’m sure the place were I volunteer will do. They love showing cult films there.

Victor Spinetti’s Sergeant-Major is the funniest part of the film! (Practically the only good thing aside from the music)

I’ve never found that scene to be of any value, just dont get whats funny about it. That and the stripper scene ( – i really dont want to see John and George perving – tho Death Cab For Cutie is a very good song) are the two i find off-putting.
I wonder if there will be another release of AHDN on dvd for a long time, tho this one is said to be out for a limited time (which seems daft to me).

Oh well, different people have different senses of humour I guess. *shrugs*
I don’t care for the stripper scene either. (“Death Cab For Cutie” is probably my least favourite song on that Bonzo Dog debut, plus it makes for a terrible band name. Terrible band too.) (Death Cab, not the Bonzos)
(Sure hope we don’t have to wait until 2020 for “Let It Be “)

Cool, I didn’t know you liked the Bonzos! I like “Gorilla” best too, but the later ones have their highlights.
