This will be the first week that I am going to try to listen over a phone 4g connection and pumping it through my car stereo. I will be on a long drive Saturday. Hope it works. If not, I’ll catch it the following night.Just drive safe and don’t get in a wreck.
No worries, sir. I’ll stop and get it all set up as the time approaches. If I loose 4g in the middle of nowhere Arkansas, I’ll just listen on Sunday night.
If there’s one place in America you’re going to lose 4G, it’s probably the middle of nowhere in Arkansas

On this week’s Fab Files we continue our two-part series of episodes looking at the Abbey Road album with a special airing of Paul Ingles’ 2009 radio special A Spin Down Abbey Road , which features commentary from musicians, authors and critics talking about what makes that album so special. This week’s episode listens to the second half of the documentary that covers all the songs that made up Side Two of Abbey Road from “Here Comes The Sun ” to “Her Majesty ,” then we hear every song from Side Two covered by the likes of Tenacious D, Richie Havens, The Volcano Suns, and more. A Spin Down Abbey Road – Side Two, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday March 22 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday March 23 at midnight (EDT) exclusively on WETS HD2. On this week’s Fab Files we do an interesting comparison between the Beatles and their comedic counterparts the Rutles as we first listen to the Beatles originals and then hear the Rutles’ excellent pastiches of those Beatles classics. The Rutles’ music was just as high quality as the band they were parodying, so if you’ve never heard the music of the Prefab Four before, then this episode is a good place to start. Beatles vs. Rutles on this week’s Fab Files Saturday March 29 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday March 30 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. I was a little nervous about re-airing this episode because I know your Rutles fandom and I was thinking “What if Ron doesn’t think it’s any good?” and I want to do justice to any topic I tackle on this show. Plus some Rutles songs didn’t make the show due to time. But it was one of my favorites and since the Fab Files listenership has grown since this ep first aired, I felt it deserved a repeat. Needless to say, I hope you like it and it passes the Ron Nasty test!

On this week’s Fab Files we look back at the amazing career of a man who was a big help for the Beatles in 1969: Billy Preston. Not only did Preston assist the band on the Let It Be and Abbey Road albums, he also was a prolific session musician as well as an accomplished singer-songwriter who charted several chart-topping records in the early to mid 70s. If you only know Preston for teaming up with the Fabs or “Nothing from Nothing,” then this week’s episode will just scratch the surface of what a dynamic talent he really was. The Music of Billy Preston, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday April 5 at 3 PM (EDT) with a re-broadcast late Sunday April 6 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. On this week’s Fab Files it’s our fundraiser episode where we ask our listeners to donate what they can comfortably afford to donate to keep WETS and public radio going strong now and into the future. This week’s episode will play in full John Lennon ‘s posthumous 1986 album Menlove Ave ., an album full of outtakes from the Walls And Bridges and Rock and Roll sessions. There’s also a couple of fascinating outtakes of John songs that made other albums. Menlove Ave ./Fundraiser on this week’s Fab Files Saturday April 12 at 3 PM (EDT) with a re-broadcast late Sunday April 13 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. On this week’s Fab Files we explore another fascinating aspect of Paul McCartney ‘s legacy as we dive head first into his dalliances with orchestral music, beginning with 1991’s Liverpool Oratorio right up to 2011’s Ocean’s Kingdom . Paul is not quite known for his orchestral talents, but he’s made quite the impact in the classical world and we’ll hear his work in the genre. WETS Program Director (though not at the time of this show’s production) Jim Blalock, a fellow Beatlemaniac, will co-host and lend his classical music expertise. Orchestral Paul, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday April 19 at 3 PM (EDT) with a re-broadcast late Sunday April 20 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. Paul’s classical music is part of the reason I started the “turning others onto Paul McCartney” thread.
I am looking forward to the show!

Hey, what’s all that screaming? That would be this week’s Fab Files as we look into the songs from John and Paul, both with the band and on their own, where they are screaming and shouting somewhere within the song, if not throughout the whole song. From “Twist And Shout ” and “I’m Down ” to “Maybe I’m Amazed ” and “What Ya Got,” it’s a episode to vociferate and marvel at the shouting talents of Mr. Lennon and Mr. McCartney. Screamin’ Beatles, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday April 26 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday April 27 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. That was totally fun, wetsroosa. Having read that thread and then sitting still long enough (thank you for captivating my attention) to listen to all those songs together and concentrating on the screaming aspect, I have a greater appreciation for that aspect of The Beatles work.
A screaming period followed by a psychedelic, mellow period followed by returned-angst-need-to-scream period. I can have mood swings like that in a 10-minute time frame. EDIT: Now that I think about it, I can have both phases going on in different parts of my brain at the same time.

On this week’s Fab Files we look into the second most successful band Paul McCartney was ever involved in: Wings, his band from 1972 to 1981 that consisted of Paul, his Lovely Linda, Denny Laine from the Moody Blues and boatload of others. Wings didn’t quite have the same impact as the Beatles did, but they were a rather underrated band with some excellent records, and we’ll check those records out that goes to show that Wings was more than just Paul McCartney ‘s backing band. Wings, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday May 3 at 3 PM (EDT) with a re-broadcast late Sunday May 4 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. On this week’s Fab Files we look into the Odds and Ends of the Beatles, as this week’s show covers a variety of topics that are not long enough to get their own show, but are too good and too informative never to be used. So for this week, we hear the dulcet tones of John Lennon ‘s dad, Alfred “Alf/Freddie” Lennon, we find out how the Beatles are connected to Major League Baseball, and we hear the same song 4 times! Actually, 4 and a half times if we’re going to be technical about it. Odds and Ends, on this week’s Fab Files Saturday May 10 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday May 11 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. The same song four times – brings to mind “You Know My Name”
Wonder what the odds are of McCartney doing that song in concert. Zero would be my guess.
This should be for another thread probably, but it would be fun if he had a no-hits tour – like the 2nd CD of his Wingspan.
