What big leap from 27 to 1? That means goobliedook (yes i mean that) to someone who cant hear the show.
“Can’t Buy Me Love ” jumps from #27 to #1 on the American singles charts from one week to the next in April of ’64, still the biggest jump to #1 for any song here in America.

On this week’s Fab Files we check out every U.S. Beatles album that was released by Capitol from 1964-1970 that was part of the recent re-release of those records in a box set called The U.S. Albums. So those Beatles albums that were beloved by Americans of a certain age like Meet the Beatles!, Something New and Yesterday … and Today will get their just due on this week’s show. We’ll also check out those easy listening instrumentals that made the Hard Day’s Night and Help soundtracks, listen to Dave Dexter Jr.’s handiwork, revisit the mono-stereo differences, and much more. The U.S. Albums on this week’s Fab Files Friday October 3 at 10 PM (EDT) on WETS FM/HD1, as well as Saturday October 4 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday October 5 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. See the very first post in this topic for info on how to pick up the show online! And now Fab Files is on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/FabFilesonWETSFM

I have a sentimental attachment to Beatles ’65 and Beatles VI.
The cover of Beatles VI could be my all time favorite Fab picture (and yes, that mattered when you actually held the album in your hands while listening)

Ah, back in the day when you stared at the album cover while listening to the record because that was ALL there was to do…
And I’m just old enough to remember doing just that with the Slippery When Wet album cover, which as a kid I thought was the coolest thing ever…

I found those instrumentals to be headache inducing. The remainder of the program has been wonderful. A big LOL for your voice during that one segment!

I hear you. We didn’t have the “Internet to do a search”, or many TV channels for that matter, so the album cover was all we had.
This is my fav cover, as this was our first Beatles album in Canada in 1963. Same songs as the UK version.
Been thinking about making a T-Shirt or coffee mug with it!

On this week’s Fab Files we’re going to hear every song on today’s show twice. I have a good reason for that: first, we’re going to hear a song from an artist or band that the Beatles admired, then we’ll hear the Fabs cover the exact same song, either on their albums or live on BBC radio. The Beatles were huge admirers of Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry and Little Richard, just to name a few, and we’ll hear the boys tackle their heroes’ songs. And while Shirley Jones was not an influence on the band (far as we know), we’ll hear her this week as well, because why not? Originals vs. Beatles on this week’s Fab Files Friday October 10 at 10 PM (EDT) on WETS FM/HD1, as well as Saturday October 11 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday October 12 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. It’s Fundraiser Time at WETS, and thus the majority of the programming on WETS will be halted for special fundraiser episodes. Keeping with that theme, this week’s Fab Files follows the same path and will feature a fundraiser special, as your esteemed host gets a little selfish and decides this week would be as good a time as any to play his favorite Beatles songs, as well as his favorite solo track from each Beatle as well as a few other audio goodies related to the Fab Four. Plus, he’ll be joined by some of the other talented voices at WETS letting you know how you can contribute whatever you can to support this public radio service that brings you the Fab Files commercial free and without interruption. Fundraiser/Nick’s Picks on this week’s Fab Files this Friday October 17 at 10 PM (EDT) on WETS FM/HD1, as well as Saturday October 18 at 3 PM (EDT) and late Sunday October 19 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2. On this week’s Fab Files we revisit our May 2014 interview with a Beatles fan with one heck of a story to tell: Lizzie Bravo. One of the original “Apple Scruffs ” (so much so they didn’t have a name for the group when she was involved), she is best known for her vocal contribution on an early rendition of “Across The Universe ,” and she talks about that experience as well as sharing a studio and a microphone with the Beatles, but she also goes in depth about what led her to leave her native Brazil to go to England, how big the Beatles were in Brazil, what London was like in the swinging ’60s, seeing Hendrix live, and much more. If you missed this episode (the first in a two-part series) when it first aired back in June, or if you just want to hear it again, this weekend is your chance. Lizzie Bravo- The Interview, Part 1, on this week’s Fab Files this Friday October 24 at 10 PM (EDT) on WETS FM/HD1, as well as this Saturday October 25 at 3 PM (EDT) and this Sunday October 26 at midnight (EDT) on WETS HD2.
