Indiewire article with trailer for “Danny Collins”:
Originally titled “Imagine ,” and then later “Danny Collins,” Al Pacino’s latest film stars the actor as an aging 1970s rocker who can’t give up his hard-living ways. But when his manager (Christopher Plummer) uncovers a 40-year-old undelivered letter written to him by John Lennon , he decides to change course and embarks on a heartfelt journey to rediscover his family, find true love and begin a second act.
It does admittedly sound a little schmaltzy, but the movie must be doing something right because the drama has secured the rights to several John Lennon songs in the movie (including “Instant Karma !” in the trailer). The movie also stars Jennifer Garner, Annette Bening, Bobby Cannavale, Josh Peck and Melissa Benoist (trivia, both Steve Carell and Jeremy Renner almost co-starred as Danny Collins’ son in the film; the role is now played by Cannavale)
We’ve already taken a peek at some first look images last week and now the full trailer has arrived. The feature-length directorial debut of screenwriterDan Fogelman (“Cars,” “Tangled,” “Crazy, Stupid, Love”), “Danny Collins” is in theaters March 20, 2015. Let us know what you think below, and in case you’ve forgotten rocker Ryan Adams is co-writing the score. [Final Reel]

Can we really say this is a Beatles film if it only includes a mention of John Lennon ?

If you’re objecting to where I placed the OP, I interpret “Beatles films, television and radio” to include solo Beatles as well. I certainly don’t think we need a whole new section for that.

Ya I agree with that. I feel that stuff with only one of the former members works should belong in their category like something with only John Lennon mentions should be in the John Lennon section.
To me I feel it is a Beatles work if it has, more than one former member of the Beatles or makes reference to the Beatles as a whole. But to each their own.

The brief synopsis goes…
“An aging rocker decides to change the course of his life after receiving a long-undelivered letter from the late John Lennon .”
The movie’s soundtrack does contain Lennon songs, but the premise is on a letter he wrote to the movie’s title character. At one point, the working title of the movie was ‘Imagine .’ Future trivia stuff!

Not sure about how the article goes on about how hard and expensive it is to get Beatles songs in films and making it seem like they have when its just John’s solo material. Is it really that difficult getting permission to feature Lennon tracks in films?

We know from Good Ol’ Freda that Apple’s very choosy about who they license Beatle music too. Perhaps Yoko follows the same strategy.
