Randomly dipping in from around the Shea Stadium era and it’s noticeable how even in the TV clips they were having fun with it. What was it about that keyboard that turned John into a clown (those clips of We Can Work It Out )? Even in the clip for Paperback Writer you can detect a stifled grin and not just from John. They loved a challenge, like over-efficient Japanese and dumb reporters. And George is my favourite interviewee in the whole series.

There are so many good bits, it’s difficult to choose. I recently discovered the Beatles version of Shout and I loved that. It’s not a brilliant piece of music but all Beatles take turns singing lead, and that makes it just… well, fab. That’s not on the DVD though, is it? It’s been a while since I watched them.

Am putting this here as no idea where else.
Was watching the first three episodes of the Anthology Directors Cut version for the first time in ages as had a long train journey and some of it is really odd and poor. The weirdest tho was that they were focusing on ‘She Loves You ‘ and then George pops up and says “Erm… what happened to ‘From Me To You ‘, didn’t that come before?” (or words to that effect) and so they go back and cover ‘From Me To You ‘ as if its just natural.
Music-wise I thought they just used the commercial versions instead of outtakes but it has a good few different live performances, for instance there is only a short excerpt of ‘Long Tall Sally ‘ from Sweden instead of seeing the full clip, instead you see a different clip from there along with ‘I Saw Her Standing There ‘ which is in both.
More swearing in the interviews.
And Paul is unbearably goofy at times hamming it up to the cameras; his performance of ‘Twenty Flight Rock’ is longer and unbelievably cringing, very difficult to watch. No wonder it was cut. In contrast soon after George playing ‘Raunchy’ on top of the bus for his audition is discussed and there is no sight of him at all.
It is so inferior to what they officially put out.

It’s been a while since the last post. I bought Anthology dvd box set when it came out and it’s been so many years since I’ve watched it so I put part one on last night. I was quite surprised how good the picture quality is for a fairly old dvd and the sound quality is really good too but wouldn’t it be good to get a bluray release? I’m surprised they haven’t looked at doing this.
I was also surprised how quickly they skip through the early years but perhaps they covered that more in the book.
PS what is the directors cut version mentioned above? Mine is a 5 dvd set with 81 mins special features. I guess that is the directors cut?

I think there’s little chance of seeing Anthology receiving a Blu-ray release until after they’re done with Let It Be and whatever other deluxe releases they might be planning, @Leppo.
As to the Director’s Cut, it’s the first version of the Anthology documentary, dates to 1993 – two years before it appeared on our television screens. It was grittier, much more interview material included. Whereas the extended DVD release of Anthology runs to 5 discs, the leaked Director’s Cut is 10 discs.
You can read much more about the many differences between the final version and the 1993 Director’s Cut here.

I just started watching the Director’s Cut tonight.
It’s 10 discs, but the official version has two episodes per disc. This only has one per disc.
There are two discs of extras as compared to one on the official.
I’ve only finished the first two discs. It’s been so long since I saw the official version I can’t say what’s different so far.

First time posting, so I apologize if this question has been answered before. I remember seeing a video segment on YouTube — and it’s an Anthology outtake, not in the original Anthology video series — where George Martin, Ringo, Paul and George are in Abbey Road at the studio master deck and discussing an Abbey Road track (not sure which track… “Golden Slumbers ”?). And they’re trying to figure out who’s playing the piano and who’s playing bass, as both instruments are on the same track. I think they finally figure out it’s likely George playing bass (if I recall correctly, he makes a comment about a five- or six-string bass that he sometimes used or was available in the studio?). I can’t find that video segment online anywhere (is it part of Director’s Cut?). Does anyone have a link? There’s a cute bit in there where George H has trouble recalling something and Paul says something like “Well, George, remember when you were part of this group The Beatles?”…some cute remark like that. (This video segment was likely part of the segment where they’re also listening to “Mark I/Tomorrow Never Knows ” track, with the original straight-forward drum beat. That bit I can find on YouTube, yes, but not the Abby Road track one.) Thanks for any info.
