It’s a 40 second instrumental featuring Clem Cattini on drums and Big Jim Sullivan and Jimmy Page on guitar.

Here’s the unedited song if you’re interested:

OMG you can even recognize Jimmy’s rhythm playing I wonder what the source is.

What is happening? And tell me how you've been.

At times, with records being reported as being matched or broken and time passing by, the influence and impact the Beatles had is a little bit forgotten by me. It’s there and I know it, but it always seems to be getting a little chipped away or nulled as life happens. Then something happens and I am reminded just how f*****g insane it all was and still is. ‘A Hard Day’s Night ‘ is showing on BBC4 next Friday and my word, the impact the film had and still has is just incredible. Regularly voted as one of the 100 greatest films of the 20th Century. That’s just f*****g madness.

The film is currently on Amazon prime Video for free Streaming. So yesterday when my girlfriend was tired from work and didnt want to do/watch anything I took my I pad and head phones and watched it.

Unfortunatly the movie is only available with ist german voice over. Usually the movies and tv shoes on prime feature the german dubbed Version as well as the original language, whatever that is.

It was…hard to get used to I have to admit. As someone who is completly used to the real voice sounds of the fab four the dubbed voices didnt work at all for me. And honestly they didnt sound or fit their Beatle in any way. John has a rather high voice but the german dubbed him with a very very low tone. Paul in contrast has a lower voice then John but got a much higher strange one in german. Ringo was very weird too, way to high, but more fitting then John or Paul. For me the voice that worked best was Georges. They had someone who sounded slightly like him in german and for me he delivered the best Performance.

The dubbed Version puts dialoque in different contexts. The Beatles reffer to Günther Grass (german Nobel Price authr) and his book the Tin Drum (Die Blechtrommel) and try to work in the german film industry (in the interview section Paul is taking about the german movie industry). Also they quote german poems. I get that it needed to make the dialoques make sense in german and much of the stuff spoken is british and not very known in Germany of that time or makes sense when translated. But they changed quite a bit of the Content which is unfortunate for german Viewers who dont speak english and cant watch the original. I mostly recognized and was bothered by the part of John in the bath tube. They completley butchered that part and John doesnt talk anything of what he is talking in englisch. They could have kept what he said in the original because its german and just use his german voice but no. All fun was taken from that Scene.

Neverthenless I enjoyed it. Watching the movie always makes me feel happy. The Beatles are at their Peak of popularity and jokes are funny and some work in german. The Music of course is faboulus. It is and always will be a strange but funny Piece of film which suites the Beatles perfectly. Iam glad I own it on Bluray!

You can watch 4 minutes of the Train Scene here and see if you think Iam right abiout the dubbed voices:

BTW: The movie was called YEAH YEAH YEAH when it was first released in (WEST) Germany. It was forbidden and not released in East Germany, same as HELP! which was called Hi-Hi-Hilfe! in West Germany. East Germany was part of the Soviet Union was called DDR Deutsche Demokratische Republic (German Democratic Republic) when in fact there was nothing democratic about the DDR. Beat Music was forbidden in the DDR in 1965.

I have no idea why but ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ is coming to selected Odeon cinemas for limited screenings from Friday 25th March. It was reissued a couple of months ago in 4k to buy but seems odd waiting until now.

The 4K Edition had two wrong editings. The release was called back. I guess we’ll see the release again soon, at least in the US. Iam not aware of future release in Germany/Europe though. I hope it will come soon!

Does anyone know what

John:
Hey he’s reading the Queen… that’s an in joke, you know.

is about?

My hot take is that after the Beatles split they went down the paths of spiritualism, solipsism, alcoholism, and Paul McCartney

Could be just a joke questioning his manhood, I suppose

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

@meaigs This article “A Guide to Britishisms and Cultural Curiosities in Help ! and A Hard Day’s Night ” mentions possible meanings for the dialogue.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8 That collection looks awesome Kyle!

It seems every few years I check in on how the technology to colorize AHDN is progressing. This sample seems very natural (Mr. Richard Starkey, that’s you!!)ahdn_ringo_09It seems like it works best when there is a static background. What do you all think about this?

It’s very good, although I think Paul’s Grandfather’s hair could be lighter.
