Anyhoo just to prove that I am still at it, here is a sneakpeek from the next chapter;

Chapter 1

Here Comes Yet Another Voormann

 

This is the first time that I’ve ever sat down to write a book. My book. Is it really “my book” or is it just another story of those four wonderful Liverpool boys, who each had a captivating, spellbound aura that not only bewitched the world but even changed it slightly. My story is their story in that without our encounter in the Hamburg Red Light District, my artwork and of course my friendship with them would never have happened. Without my encounter with the members of The Beatles, it is fair to say that my life would be something entirely different, especially not as exciting or as terrible. My journey with those four is a special highpoint of my life, it was sometimes very intensive, other times it was something quite different all together but The Beatles still weave through the fabric of my life, decades on.

Hey George, Paul, John, Ringo, hey you Beatles, for this I thank you all!

Now I sit here at my Macintosh Powerbook and look for something to write down, how should I recount these tales? What was it really like back then?  I’m trying to sift through my brain where for now many thoughts have been sorted into loose chapters. It isn’t a simple thing for me. While I type these pieces, I ask myself: Is that really right? Who’s interested in that? Is anyone interested in the things I have seen and the experiences I’ve had?

There have already been so many things written about The Beatles before- by members of The Beatles themselves but also by self-proclaimed friends, journalists, co-workers, groupies, hairdressers, chauffeurs, bodyguards and not to forget, relations and friends of their friends, journalists, co-workers, groupies, hairdressers, chauffeurs, bodyguards. And here comes another one from Voormann!

 Every day I get letters, faxes, and emails from all parts of the world which always have the same questions. Yet, it was George who always encouraged me to write my biography. We sat in Gerhard Berger’s house in Tirol, some months before George’s death. He was so full of plans and ideas that I had no idea that this would be our last get-together.

“When will you finally write your own story?” You have lived through so much, most of which had something to do with us, besides you’re one of the few people who has been there since the beginning! With you I know that you won’t write rubbish, (honestly George didn’t say ‘rubbish’ he actually said ‘bullshit’).

George had it right, as always- and as always, he gave me a kick up the backside, for the last time.

So after much thinking of whether the reader would enjoy it, I decided to write this book. I could not imagine retelling all of the events that are so often printed. I didn’t want to repeat what had already been told a hundred times. I wanted to describe personal, small stories as I had seen them. I wanted to recount things that had really affected me personally and I wanted to write down memories that were important to me and therefore I could lay my heart down on the page. I didn’t want to just write about my four Liverpool friends but also of my collaborations with so many other fantastic, wonderful and sometimes strenuous friends. Many of whom are not with us anymore.

“Some are dead and some are living, in my life, I loved them all”.

There you have it, once again- The Beatles.
