I had a chance encounter with Dan Richter (who?).
Among many exciting facets to his life, Richter was Lennon and Ono’s personal assistant from around ’69 to ’73.
Apparently he’s got a book coming out (out already in Britain?) detailing his years with the Jokos.
He specifically recalls John wanting out of the Beatles and using Yoko as a “foil.”
This confirms that Yoko did not break up the Beatles.
Alas, that wasn’t the question I asked him; I wanted to know if he thought Yoko kept the Beatles from ever getting back together – but then again, I didn’t realize he wasn’t with them past ’73 or so.
(if you perform a search of his name, you’ll find quite a guy!)
(Smart of Richter to get his book out before Joe’s)
"Into the Sky with Diamonds" (the Beatles and the Race to the Moon – a history)
I was thinking about him only yesterday; I stumbled across his name somewhere, and thought what an interesting life he had. Wasn’t he the guy in the primate costume who threw the bone at the beginning of 2001: A Space Odyssey?
