I’ll just wait til someone has read it and tells me it’s worth it. If it isn’t, then I won’t buy it but will borrow it from the library. For some reason I’ve Got A Feeling (a feeling deep inside ohyeah) that the library won’t have it though.
I’m pretty sure it will be worth it. I mean, it’s Mark Lewisohn, isn’t it? I’ve been attempting to explain to my mom why this book is so important but she’s having none of it.
Maybe wait a month or so after it’s released (if you can), and see if they’ve got it. It’s going to be a big book, my library only stocky flimsy little paperbacks.

I haven’t even read anything by him. I’ve told my mom about it as well and she just went ”holy s**t THAT many pages? Must be quite expensive. Wow you’ll probably never find it anywhere and read it”
Yeah, my library’s Beatles collection is quite limited..tbh I was very surprised they had the Anthology book. They don’t even have You Never Give Me Your Money either, and I really want to read that one too -_______-

Lewisohn is one of, if not THE, only Beatles writer who can justifiably be considered to be “essential” reading. This book will be fantastic, I’ve no doubt.
I still think the title is s**t, though

And here it is:
Can’t say I’m in love with it. I was expecting something a bit more stately to befit its importance, and the prospect of two more in a similar vein doesn’t fill me with glee. The logo reminds me of the crappy one for London 2012. IMO a good picture of The Beatles would have improved it no end.

Honestly…that’s f*****g awful! Can’t even use the Beatles’ logo? That looks like something put together by a high school kid with Photoshop. Massively disappointing. Although in this case I still won’t judge a book by its cover since I have faith in Lewisohn the writer.

That’s… kind of an ugly cover. Not really sure what they’re going for. I wonder if the U.S. cover will be the same, and if they’ll change it for the paperback? The book is finally listed on Amazon.com (previously it was only on Amazon.co.uk) but right now it only includes a dummy cover:
It looks like the U.S. release is October 29, a couple of weeks after the U.K release on October 10. Also, the U.S. release says 1248 pages, but the U.K. releases are 800 pages (regular edition) and 1856 pages (expanded edition). That’s weird.
If you zoom in on the cover image, there’s a black line that runs along the bottom of the page about 2/3 through the book. I guess that’s a section of photos? Of course it might not be an actual printed copy of the book inside the cover but a mockup.
I think it’s a mockup. If you look at the top of the spine it says “All”, suggesting they forgot to add the rest of the lettering.

I really hope that’s a mock-up or placeholder until there’s a better design. It’d be a shame for such a monumental and important book(s) to have such crap covers.

Very disappointing, if that is it. Really ugly, and shows no suggestion that it’s actually a book about The Beatles, apart from the fact that it says that (which isn’t obvious because it’s not in Beatles letters).
Was expecting something that leaves an impact on you, and is going to catch your eye.

This is a classic case of the old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover.” Especially since we’re all familiar with how good Mark Lewisohn’s books on The Beatles have been…he’s damn lucky since he got stuck with that cover (or perhaps he *shudder* approved it himself?)

It’s unofficial, so they couldn’t have used the drop-T logo (although they got halfway there). I can understand why they didn’t use a photo of the band, as this covers everything from birth to (I think) 1963 – hard to have one pic that would be representative of such a long time. I suppose they could have got Klaus V to do something but maybe they thought that would be too similar to an official Apple publication. I dunno.
IMO the best Beatles book covers are the simple ones – Lewisohn’s Sessions, the Lennon Letters etc. They don’t need clutter or excessive design (that mock 3D lettering looks awful to me). It also looks very 1980s, which is odd for a biog of a 60s band. The sad thing is I expect they’ll have to stick with this design for the duration of the series.

^It is unofficial? I didn’t think Apple would be behind it per se, but I’d assume they’d at least have given their blessing and cooperated somewhat in terms of allowing for the logo to be used (unless I’m wrong about how they approach licensing the Beatles’ stuff). I agree that simple covers are best, but they could’ve done much better than this one, that’s for sure!

80’s, exactly. That’s exactly what it looks like.
I understand now why they couldn’t use the logo, or a picture. But, come on, trained, even degreed, graphic designers do these kind of things. Surely they could have come up with something a bit better?

Wow that’s one hell of an ugly cover! I don’t think it looks necessarily 80s though, I myself thought it looks very futuristic.
I really don’t understand how they could’ve picked THAT for a cover and hope it will change.
Ah well, as long as the book won’t be dissapointing too, I won’t complain about the cover.

An outstanding 3D-effect, pop-art cover that is absolutely relevant to the contextual timeframe and really jumps off the page. Mark Lewisohn’s book doesn’t need to rely on a photo image, nor should it. A photo would simply lump it in with all of the other Beatle books out there, whereas this cover, with its unique, striking typeface, justly makes Volume One stand on its own; the first volume of a trilogy that will, without a doubt, be the Bible of Beatledom. (Editions of the regular Bible don’t have cover images of Moses or JC to help boost sales.) In a short while people won’t be prattling on about the cover of ‘All These Years – Tune In’; in line with Lewisohn’s other Beatles-related books, they’ll be referencing and deferring to its content as the last word – incredibly researched and artfully written – on the greatest popular music fusion of all time.
