At this rate we’ll have no idea what happened to The Beatles post 1966. We’ll need to invent our own theories, which nobody will be able to disprove.

At this rate we’ll have no idea what happened to The Beatles post 1966. We’ll need to invent our own theories, which nobody will be able to disprove.
In 2023 I’ll finally discover if Paul really did die in that motorcycle accident. After that what else is there to know? Did Yoko steal anyone else’s biscuits?

Wouldn’t surprise me if it ends up like GRRM’s A Song of Ice and Fire, we’ll get the second to last book because of the amount of time it takes to write them but won’t get the last book.

Online I get it, I put off writing my thesis until the very last minute, but goodness gracious get it done already! Its your job man, and I can imagine a very enjoyable one. Lewisohn brings such a high level of scholarship into his books, but at some point there has to be an element of just getting things done, and for some reason he just isn’t bringing it. George RR Martin (the second coolest George Martin) has a but more liberty as he’s writing a creative epic on a massive scale that was notoriously mishandled by TV writers. Lewisohn has access to unbelievable amounts of evidence and accounts, the only good excuse for the delay would be an extremely revelatory book 2.

Offline I know Lewisohn still hasn’t offered even a rough estimation of when Volume 2 will be published–but has he said anything about whether or not Volume 2, like Volume 1, will also be available as an extended edition? I’m definitely in if so.

Thanks, Ahhh Girl–you are absolutely correct about my wanting the longest version possible! I read the regular edition of volume 1, which was wonderful unto itself, and a few months later undertook the extended edition… and was very glad that I did so. Hopeful that Mr. Lewisohn and his publishers will opt for a similar two-tier publication of V. 2, whenever it finally emerges. Currently tiding myself over with the amazing hardbound books that accompany the album box sets released in recent years (Revolver , The White Album , etc).

Offline A year and a half later, is there any word on when we’re going to see Volume 2? I’ve pretty much given up on the notion that we’ll ever see a volume 3 (hope I’m wrong). It’s been 11 years since volume 1 came out, presumably meaning that work on V. 1 was finished about 12 years ago. Is ML waiting for someone to die? Pardon the frustration, but the continuing lack of information on when we can expect V. 2–or as to why it’s taking so much longer than Lewisohn’s original publication timeline– has begun to irritate me.

Offline Similar to Paul’s Archive releases where I’ve pretty much given up even thinking about it.

I think Lewisohn has gotten so involved in wanting to include every possible piece of information which ever existed he’s ended up vanishing into a compiling black hole. At some point with any project you need to draw a line as some end result however lacking has to be better than nothing.
The only hope for volume 3 is if it’s being written and completed alongside v2 and they are released within a defined definite time frame.
