It’s not just a matter of telling the story. He’s going through the evidence to see if the story is right or wrong. When I met him in Laugharne he’d recently been analysing floorplans for the Tokyo hotel they stayed in in 1966. I don’t know why he needed to do that, or what he extrapolated from them. That’s amazing. If that building still exists, I would not be a bit surprised to learn that he timed how long it took The Beatles to go from their rooms to the hotel lobby – just to corroborate what George and Ringo said about it in Anthology. The man is thorough, I’ll give him that. It makes me wonder if he’ll go to Manila with the sole intent of snubbing Imelda Marcos just to experience what that feels like.
This made me laugh – but I am a bit concerned about the floor plans story. Er… Why?

It’s because he goes for documents rather than hearsay/opinion wherever possible. I’ve no idea if he found anything in the floorplans that could go in a future volume, but at least he’s seen them.
The Beatles spent three nights in their hotel suite at the Tokyo Hilton in 1966. They were unable to leave due to tight security, so they ended up collaborating on the painting which became known as Images of a Woman . I doubt Lewisohn bothers with floor plans for every hotel the Fabs stayed in, but you can see why this might be of interest.
He mentioned the floorplans in passing, when talking about all the documentary evidence that he’d been looking at in recent months. That was just the latest at that time.

Wasn’t it at the Tokyo Hilton that the police gave them schedules down to the second (“at 18 [24-hour clock]:27 and 16 seconds The Beatles will be at the elevator, the elevator will take 17 seconds to reach the lobby, The Beatles will exit the hotel at 18:28 and 9 seconds…” etc.) and for years after they laughed about how they never kept to the military timings they’d been given, @Joe? Or was that the Philippines?
Those timings might be the reason ML is interested in the floor plans of the Hilton.

It was in Tokyo. In Anthology, Ringo said The Beatles would mess with the timing by not answering the door when it was time to exit the room. That is what prompted me to post this: from upthread…

ZigIs there anything different about the paperback edition? The temptation to update it must be immense given all the stuff he’s discovering each month. That said, I hope he doesn’t get sidetracked and carries on working on book two.

I can’t remember if the mistake I spotted that ML acknowledged was only confined to the extended, if it was also in the normal edition, I hope at least that’s been corrected.

Lennon family history, @meanmistermustard. Page 20 of the extended. He has a footnote connected to child 7, Leonard Joseph Lennon, that says he was the only child to be given two Christian names, and that it was done to hopefully break the early deaths of the children. I pointed out that child 3, John Arthur Lennon, also had two Christian names. He confirmed he’d got it wrong, but didn’t confirm whether the footnote was wrong or whether one of the names was wrong.

I am so glad to know why Paul didn’t pass the audition to become a choirboy at the Anglican Cathedral. I’m also thankful he didn’t pass. (Page 176, first book of the first volume of the extended edition.) If that has been revealed elsewhere before, apologies.

I am wondering which will come first? Dale Earnhardt Jr winning the Sprint Cup trophy, Avatar 2, Lewisohn’s sequel to Tune-In, or Official Government Disclosure of ETs?

They’ll all beat ‘Let It Be ‘ on DVD. As will the US admitting the 1969 moon landing was faked, the Queen and co announcing they are quitting the UK and moving to Antigua to cultivate the Cuban Tree Frog, and Richard Dawkins repenting live on worldwide TV before becoming the new Pope.

Surely there has been at least one Pope through the centuries who has claimed he’s found it all to be total nonsense and recanted. Probably was killed in some gruesome way afterwards for doing so.

Stephen VI was interesting………He was called the ‘Necromancer Pope’. Dug his predecessor up, dressed his skeleton in his Pope’ry and put him on trial.
Not having much to say in his defence he was found guilty of all sorts of things and had his three blessed fingers cut off and reburied…..Then they dug him up and slung him in the Tiber.
But I reckon Benedict (the something I’ll check)…..took the biscuit.
Half his family had been Popes and by paying off the Cardinals……Benedict, (the something) became Pope at 20. Went to his head. Even for a Pope the sex was excessive, hence the term Ben’e’dicked’us. After a while with all the orgies, beastiality and sadism ‘Benny’ decided he was ‘flogging a dead horse’ and resigned.
He was obviously missed as he came back twice more.
Whether either of the Pope’s recanted their faith? i don’t know..but I think they sort of missed the point of what Jesus was on about.
Edit It was Benedict IX…. ‘number nine……..number nine………number nine’
