Brand new here, nice to meet everyone! I have heard/read many references to Lewisohn’s conversation with George in which George said something to the effect of “how can know what happened? You weren’t there.” Does anyone have a source for the circumstances surrounding that quote? E.G., when, where, etc? Thanks!
Hi @John McStarkeyson, thanks for your question. I’m sure someone here will have and answer for you.
That sentiment form George sounds a lot like Paul in Early Days on his New album:
Now everybody seems to have their own opinion
Who did this and who did that
But as for me I don’t see how they can remember
When they weren’t where it was at

From Mark Lewisohn’s FB:
Last Wednesday afternoon I had the pleasure of being interviewed on BBC 6 Music by Mark Radcliffe & Stuart Maconie, Live At The BBC ’s new studios in Salford. Every Radcliffe & Maconie show is worth hearing, so here’s the whole thing (if you have three hours to spare). My own bit runs 22 minutes, from 1.36.11 to 1.58.15.

Examiner article mentioning that the book will be coming out on paperback next year.
Wish it were the extended version.

The paperback edition of Tune In is now listed on Amazon.co.uk, out on 5 May 2015. It’s not yet on the US site.
I also noticed that the Kindle version of the extended edition is now £20×2. It was £39×2 when it came out.

£10 is a bargain for 944 pages of Lewisohn. But unlike you I won’t be getting it – I have the standard hardback and ESE and don’t need another paper copy. I might spring for the ESE on Kindle one day but £40 is a big outlay for the convenience of a digital copy.
I would like to know if the paperback edition carries any updates or a new intro. When I met Mark he seemed very aware of the discussions that had taken place online about his handling of various issues (notably the deaths of Julia Lennon and Mary McCartney). He was also assailed by people saying “Mark! I’ve got something you’d be interested in!” I bet quite a bit of new information has emerged since he submitted the manuscript to Little, Brown.

Absolutely – given how meticulous Mark appears to be (though I know him through his writing only) I’d be very surprised if he isn’t itching to make a fair few tweaks and additions. I guess this will depend on whether the publisher allows him the opportunity to do this, and whether the author himself has the time, inclination and remaining energy(!) to do so.

I really dont want to hear that there is a revised £150 ESE coming out unless i can exchange my unread copy. Who gets time to read?

Me – at least 90 minutes per day.
IF he did put out a revised ESE I would seriously consider it for two reasons. 1) I would get to read it a third time and 2) My copy is not in the best of shape any more. Having said that, there would have to be a lot of updates.

Taking lessons from Paul and Apple.
I think i’m going to have it written into my will that those who want to keep their inheritance from me have to open my coffin and throw in these two remaining volumes, the ‘Let it Be’ film and Paul’s complete archive collection just so i did finally get them as the way things are going i am not going to get them whilst alive.

Well, I just jumped into the quagmire of trying to actually attaining the full version of this. Man, that’s disappointing. I’m not going to buy it unless I can get the full version, and I would much rather just have the e-book version instead of making an event out of it. The great conveniences of the modern world go underutilized yet again.

I attended a lecture Mark gave to the Liverpool History Society a couple of days ago. From the horses mouth so to speak –
Vol 2 – “still researching, almost ready to start writing”. Estimated to be completed and published “2020-21”.
Vol 3 – “5 or 6 years after that”.
It may be a bit of a drag having to wait so long, but as he said, “it’s got to be right”.
Having read the physical standard edition, I’m still ploughing my way through Pt2 of Vol 1 on my Kindle, taking my time – well, I’ve got another 5 or so years to read it…

2020 – 2021 for volume 2. 2027 for volume 3!!!!!!!
And everyone was in a rush to read volume 1.
Currently reading January to June 1957 of this book. I’m still getting my head around having to read 350 pages before John meets Paul for the first time. Most Beatles books have reached the split by page 350 (if they even get that many pages).
Normally you get “John Lennon was born at some point and then he met Paul (who also had been born) and they released a single in 1962 called ‘Love Me Do ‘ with a guy called George and some lucky dude called Ringo”.*
*You might think thats bad but there are worse Beatles books out there.
