I would just point out that February is only a hypothetical date. There is no definite word that the US publisher has taken up their option yet. The only thing we know for sure is that Lewisohn has said, “It will not be this year”.
As to reading spoilers, parlance, I like your earlier suggestion of having a spoilers thread, and trying to keep things out of the rest of the forum as much as possible, to allow people to read at their own speed, and those who have to wait to catch up. I think people here would do their best to work within that.
Whatever the crap around the publishing details, we all know this is as important a book about The Beatles as has ever been published, just because of who it is written by, and his record. Let’s do our best to not flood the forum with new threads to discuss the many new things that come to light, and try and keep the discussion to one place.

I don’t like being in the dark, so I’d rather order the UK edition. We could wait until February just to find out it’s not being released, and by then copies of the deluxe edition could be scarce and even more expensive.
I ordered both. Originally, I ordered 2 copies of the US version – 1 for me and 1 for my brother for a Christmas present.
Since then, I cancelled 1 of the US versions and ordered the UK version for myself.
Soooo…when the first one arrives next month, I will carefully read the US version (making sure not to spill coffee on it) and then wrap it up (glad my brother is not in this Forum!!).
Then, I will read the UK version I ordered for myself. I’m still hoping for further price reduction as the UK version, with shipping to the US, is not cheap. I live in Miane, which is the Eastern-most state (where America’s day begins!). I can’t imagine what shipping would have been to somewhwere further inland. Yikes. This is really putting a hole in my Beatles Budget.
Either way, with each passing day, I get giddier and giddier awaiting the arrival of the first one. Can’t…flippin’…wait.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

It’s all very confusing!
Anyone made a simple little guide for it?
"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."
Amazon.co.uk have standard shipping charges for North America, so if you order from there you should only pay an extra £7 (I don’t know if you’d pay extra customs/taxes). The main killer for US people seems to be the cost of the book itself, but that’s the same for us Brits too.

I’ve done that, but I’ve found that when people reply, they’ll sometimes respond referring to spoilers and forget to use the tags. I thought a separate thread might be safer.

Right now, depending on the exchange rate by the time it comes out, with shipping the deluxe UK edition will cost $128 – about $100 more than the regular US edition. Ugh. Will definitely keep an eye out for a price decrease.

No, we don’t pay VAT or any taxes, just the shipping. And you’re right, it’s the price itself that’s the killer, it comes to something like $140 with shipping! My guess is *if* a US version of the deluxe is released, it will cost less…I’d guess $115 or so. And Amazon ships free within the US for orders over $25.

I’ve just read that Lewisohn’s book has no reference index at the back, which is absolutely ridiculous for a tome of this size. I’m totally dissapointed about this if it’s true, as I use the index continually when reading non-fiction, or when just dipping in and out. A poor show.
Apparently an index is included in the special edition. But why not both?

WHAT?! Literally, I just yelled that at my desk. Well, that would rule out the regular edition if true. I get annoyed when bios don’t have indices.

“The main difference between the regular UK edition and the USA edition is said to be that the USA edition will have the references pages added, in the UK, these will only be printed in the deluxe edition.”
I have a few non-fiction books without indices, and do find it impairs my enjoyment of them substantially. Hopefully, it looks like we’re safe with this one.

Its ridiculous the pains purchasers have to go thru with this to get what is best for themselves.
I will get the standard abridged version either second hand, heavily reduced or cheap paperback; paying £74 is plenty already so a further £18 is not practical.

How long do you think it will be before it starts appearing in charity shops/car boot sales? If I remember correctly 50 Shades was published in 2011 and didn’t really surface until 2012 and I started seeing it round a lot last month, so roughly about a year?

Second hand probably around a year, a shop like Fopp might put it out heavily reduced at some point as they did with Living In The Material World (on sale for £3) about 6 months after release. Obviously this is the Beatles and highly anticipated but they have sold reduced Beatles books before (one being the paperback Anthology which I think was £5).
By having the deluxe its not a big deal, will take an age to get thru that anyway, but its obviously different if weighing up what way to go now.

I’ve been trying to track down a 2nd hand hardcover of ‘Anthology’ and they are few and far between down here (only the paperback is currently available at retail). So, at least here in Oz, it depends very much on what book and how much it cost originally.
