Not buy it, ExText, what!???
It certainly sounds very impressive. £75 is so much money, though. The Sun do holidays away for that price.I’m tempted to both buy it (because it sounds awesome) and to not buy it, because the reason for selling 4,000 versions of the book is none other than greed. It’s very sad that books are now adopting the business model that music has been using (quite unfairly, I might add) for some time. Just release one damned version.
I agree, just release 1 unified version. I think Lewisohn is the right person for this and it’s going to be great, but I got irritated when he said in his latest video that if you buy the abridged version, “you aren’t missing anything, you get the whole story,” but then says if you get the expanded version “you get more info, it digs deeper, and you get more pictures.” So which is it? You can’t, by definition, get “everything” and not be “missing anything” if you don’t get everything unless you have the full version!

Concerning the difference between the Regular and Extended editions: This is just a guess and based on absolutely NOTHING lol but maybe a lot of the extra info is more about the “supporting characters” early days (like Cynthia, Brian, George Martin, etc.) rather than J, P, G & R….It is possible that the publisher chose to trim some of the space allotted to them rather than cut away anything about the “main characters”, The Beatles themselves.
Like I said, it’s just a theory and I’m probably wrong. lol I guess we’ll have to wait and find out AND (most importantly) be happy with whichever version of the book we buy. I wish us luck.

My desire to have something awesome won out. I’ve preordered the deluxe UK edition. The good thing about Amazon is the price can always go down and you can always cancel the order if you get in a bind.
Glad to see you’ve seen sense, ExTex. And it does sound like it’s going to be a beautiful object – the type of thing that if Genesis Publications were putting it out, it’d be £200+! I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

I don’t know about you, but this strikes me as pure greed on the publisher’s part: On Amazon, the Kindle version of the extended edition is going to be sold in two parts; meaning two separate purchases….. Yes, I know the Ex. Hardcover edition comes in 2 parts, but there is no reason a digital copy needs to be split in two……. I don’t mean to sound b*tchy, but it seems like every bit of information they (slowly) give us makes the choices more complicated. I just want the @%# book in my hands LOL
More confusion: Amazon is now showing 3 different Kindle versions of 3 different sizes (number of pages) and 3 different release dates, and so far has only announced the price of one of these 3 versions.

Here are the differences from the man himself
And in essence, as I posted earlier in this thread, he contradicts himself wildly and unequivocally. You can’t be “getting everything” with the abridged (which, by DEFINITION of the word “abridged”, has things excised) version yet get EVERYTHING with the author’s cut.
It’s like saying by eating half a pizza, you get all of the pizza, but by eating the entire pizza, you get more pizza. It simply IS NOT TRUE.

I suppose with the pizza analogy for the normal version you are getting a cheese one with a bit of garnish, very nice if that’s what you want. However the deluxe super duper edition comes with all the toppings you desire, a nice side salad, a drink, a certificate of order and nice picture of the meal.

He’s a storyteller. If you’re describing a recording session, for example, you can say what happened and who was there. That’s probably enough information for most people. The story is told.
You could, however, also describe how and when people arrived, the weather on that particular day, the Apple Scruffs outside, the number of tape reels used, who was engineering, the atmosphere inside the building, when the lunch break took place, what people were wearing and how many times they broke wind. That’s what he means by there being different levels to the story (not necessarily the bit about breaking wind – I’m fairly confident he won’t be going into that sort of detail, though I wouldn’t bet on it). There’s always an extra level of granularity you can go to, though for the sake of everyone’s sanity you’d have to draw the line somewhere.
Mmm. Pizza.

I’m a sheep who has also ordered the super-duper uber-deluxe edition well in advance from Amazon. The thought of the price going up before release and having to pay more knowing its going to be bought eventually was a troubling one.

I’ve convinced my mom to let me pre-order it ’cause the more and more of you here that do, the more nervous and eager I get to want it pre-ordered, too. What if I leave it and then the price goes back up, or something like that happens? If I have it ordered then I know I’m safe. Just got to get her to the computer now, and I should have it sorted.

^ Thank you, I know. I don’t entirely agree with it at times, but the core of my being tells me that a form of love is better than no love. There’s not enough love in the world anymore, but then again, maybe there never was enough?
Where does it come from? Hmm… let’s try and remember that. I read it somewhere a while back, perhaps an interview he did, and I immediately changed my sig on here. Never copied a link to it or anything like that. I’ll try and think, but I can’t remember for now. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

That’s it, I’ve taken the plunge and ordered the deluxe edition. Saw my mom’s eyes almost pop out when she saw the price actually written down, luckily Christmas is relatively near, though, so that’s me sorted for this year. Now I just can’t wait for it to get here!

Glad to hear that, Emily. And look at it this way, it’s £75 for 2 books.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say, ask politely, is that those of you who get the October release, please don’t saying all over the place, “Well, Lewisohn says…” Wait for those of us who are waiting until November to catch up. If you feel you just have to say something, put it under a spoiler tab. Please play nicely and don’t spoil it for those of us who have to wait!
