The special extended edition is actually £74. I’m probably going to just get the standard version and then download a pdf of the extended edition. Even though it’s undeniable that it’s a tome of important beatle facts, but I’m just not used to paying £70 for a book.

"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."

Happy, Happy Mark! That’s where my order is!

And Lewisohn said he expected a price-drop to about £85. God , today, I love Amazon!

Though I warn all you feckers, don’t spoil it for us barstewards that have to wait for the extended!

Talk all you want about new revelations, just put it all under spoilers.

In Wogblog’s most recent article its speculated that Volume 2 might not be out until 2020 and volume 3 2027 as they haven’t yet been writen. That is some wait for the remaining periods tho gives readers 6 years to get thru the expanded super-duper edition.

2027?! That means I’ll be 33 by the time it comes out. That’s so weird.

The new info:

The extended special edition of Mark Lewisohn’s magisterial book Tune In is a true collector’s item, featuring hundreds of thousands of words of extra material, as well as many extra photographs. It is the complete, uncut and definitive biography of the Beatles’ early years, from their family backgrounds through to the moment when they are on the cusp of global stardom at the end of 1962.

Designed, printed and bound in Great Britain, this high-quality edition consists of two beautifully produced individual hardbacks printed on New Langely Antique Wove woodfree paper, with red-and-white head and tail bands and red ribbon marker. The two books will sit within a specially designed box and lid featuring soft touch and varnish finishes. The whole product comes shrinkwrapped for extra protection.

Mark Lewisohn’s biography is the first true and accurate account of the Beatles, a contextual history built upon impeccable research and written with energy, style, objectivity and insight. This extended special edition is for anyone who wishes to own the complete story in all its stunning and extraordinary detail. This is genuinely, and without question, the lasting word from the world-acknowledged authority.

Did anyone else play “Spot the Beatles book you own” while watching the video? I think I have about 80% of those.

Glad to see the price drop to £75 on Amazon UK too. I was thinking of cancelling my pre-order but I’ll let it stand. For the amount of use I’ll get out of these books, it’s not expensive at all.

Yes Joe, its hard concentrating on what Mark is saying without shouting “I’ve got that book” or wondering which ones you don’t have that you should get.

I haven’t ordered it yet, its getting around to taking the plunge as £75 for a book is difficult to justify. I will but will have to do so soon tho as I suspect that nearer the time the price will go up again.

You would think that with all the books out there we would know everything yet here we are drooling at the mouth for this.

Yeah, actually it’s quite ridiculous. Here we are, obsessing over some book.

His bookcase is enviable. Geebus, that man has a lot of books. Of course. I don’t own any of them I think.

Oh well that explains why it’s so ridiculously expensive.

The more I read/hear about it, the more I’m obsessing over it. But damn it’s still so expensive for a Dutchie like me. I could buy a couple of schoolbooks for that amount of money T.T

As the head of the library acquisitions department of a university that offers degrees in music, I’ll need to decide which version to put on our shelves. Glad I got in on this conversation to help me choose.

Wont the shrink wrap have to come off to open the thing to get it the book out to read it?

My natural reaction is to gripe and moan as a book is a book, it can get torn, fall apart, be burned up, written all over in pen by a three year old, have food/drink dropped on it etc, but then the thought comes to the book in the Mono Vinyl box which smells amazing, looks amazing and is great to read. So its more than just the book and the words, its the packing, the smell, the look, the whole experience.

And yet its still hard to justify buying the thing. People have went insane and just snapped over far less.

Haha, that’s just what I did, asked “Santa” 8)

And yes, I think MMM must’ve meant the stereo vinyl box. Although I have heard rumors a mono vinyl box is coming out soon?

The US version can be here in October. The UK Whoop-Dee-Doo version can be here in November. a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

Ordered both! a-hard-days-night-ringo-10heart

I refuse to buy an abridged book, so I’ve canceled my order.  I either won’t buy it, will add it to my Christmas list, or when the US version comes out in February I’ll get a cheaper used copy from the UK (assuming it doesn’t become a collector’s item with skyrocketing prices).

Not buy it, ExText, what!???
It certainly sounds very impressive. £75 is so much money, though. The Sun do holidays away for that price.

I’m tempted to both buy it (because it sounds awesome) and to not buy it, because the reason for selling 4,000 versions of the book is none other than greed.  It’s very sad that books are now adopting the business model that music has been using (quite unfairly, I might add) for some time.  Just release one damned version.

Totally agree. Its ridiculous, a huge money making scheme and leaves a trail of guilt and bankruptcy.

The Sun also do holidays for £7.50 by the way (vouchers need to be collected, terms and conditions apply etc etc).

^ Oh, is it £7.50? I just saw a 7 and a 5 and assumed it was for £75. What kind of a holiday can you get for under a tenner?
