That settles that, then! Although you can’t download UK Kindle books in the US…I’ve tried . But I’ll stick with my US hard copy and buy the Kindle UK edition somehow. Stupid publisher!
Well, roughly, if 120 pounds is (approximately) $185, then in Euros that’d be around 140, wouldn’t it?
Yeah about 144 euros. That’s quite a lot. So if I’d own all three volumes and they’d be the same price, I’d have spent 432 euros on 3 books. Wow. That’s about as much as 3/4 of the books I need for college. Ridiculous.

It is ridiculous…you could buy all 3 US versions, which are slightly shorter, and COMBINED you’d spend less than what this first UK volume costs.
I will always love the Beatles (they have nothing to do with this), and Lewisohn’s books are great, but this whole thing is starting to leave a bad taste in my mouth…:-/

On Amazon.com there’s an option to send Kindle books as gifts to anywhere in the world (if you know the person’s email address). Unfortunately the same option isn’t available on Amazon.co.uk, otherwise I’d be able to send on copies (for the ebook price, of course). I suppose someone in the UK could remove the DRM via Calibre and the DeDRM plugin, then distribute copies, but that probably wouldn’t be legal
The £120 price will fall, if not pre-launch then shortly after. You could buy it on Kindle as a stopgap then import the full version in the new year once the price has dropped. I’d be surprised if it remained full price before it’s published though.

Interesting that he chose a hotel on Southampton Row. It’s close to Woburn Place where the Beatles stayed at the Royal National Hotel on the night before the Decca audition. (I work nearby!). It’s even closer to the President Hotel where they lived in summer 1963 after moving down from Liverpool.
I only mention it because Mark would definitely have known these things. Wonder if he’ll make reference to it at the event…

^I’m sure it wasn’t happenstance that led him to book the Q&A for Vol. 1 there!

I thought I read somewhere (perhaps on this forum) that the extra pages in the extended edition are just author’s notes / bibliography info. If that’s all it is, then I would be happy with the regular edition. I wish Amazon or someone would gives us more details about the difference between the two so I can figure out which one to pre-order !!

The authors notes and bibliography is what is included in the extra pages between the regular UK (906pgs) and US versions (1248). The extended version contatins the full Lewisohn story (1856 pages) as it was in his contract to provide a more condensed version, which is why we are getting this in the regular versions.

^THAT is what pisses me off. I can live without the footnotes…but all that extra material? It’s asinine that it’s only for the UK market.

In Wogblog’s most recent article its speculated that Volume 2 might not be out until 2020 and volume 3 2027 as they haven’t yet been writen. That is some wait for the remaining periods tho gives readers 6 years to get thru the expanded super-duper edition.

Good lord. I thought he had these written, it was just the editing to be done.

But Lewisohn does say the research has been done (though I don’t doubt there’ll be bits and pieces that he wants to look at again as he does the writing), and he estimates them at 2016 and 2020. WogBlog could turn out to be right but they completely ignore what Lewisohn expects to be able to do.

If Lewishon thinks he’ll have them done by 2016 and 2020, then I’m sure they’ll be done closer to then than the dates come up by someone else. He is the writer, after all, surely he has the clearest idea.

And he says that Volume 1 took so long because the research took longer than he expected, and if he has done the majority of the research for all three at the same time then that isn’t going to delay 2 and 3. WogBlog has just looked at the timespan involved in 1, and decided it will take him as long again for the two to follow, ignoring his explanation that it was doing 99% of the research before 1 that led to that long period between first announcement and publication.

A very pleased Mark with a freshly printed copy of volume 1. This is actually the standard edition. According to what I’ve read on another site, he wouldn’t be able to hold the Deluxe edition without assistance!

So what’s the Lewisohn story all about? Is it worth reading all those extra pages? Is it worth paying the £70 on Amazon?
"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."

The basic answer is, YEAH! YEAH! YEAH! The UK “author’s cut” is the version. Where on Amazon are you seeing for £70? I’ll change my order!
