Event finished. All my pics are at Instagram including a nice close up of Dave Grohl.
Ringo at first sat in the audience – he showed up with Olivia and Barbara – for most of the event before it was time for his own Q&A and kept us laughing with the occasional quip. Dave Grohl spoke as well as the drummer from The Black Crowes and Henry Diltz, the official photographer at Woodstock. And then, of course, the man himself. We also got to see the film made for The Grammy exhibit.
Really fun event, a great celebration of Ringo’s life and talent. I feel honored to have been there. And I’m pleasantly surprised even cheap seats got a great swag bag. It was worth every penny. Someone was recording so hopefully it’ll all end up online.

That’s awesome! Ringo is the best, and it’s great to see Dave Grohl and Steve Gorman giving him props at the event as well. Thanks for sharing with us!

Sorry, meant to post more today, but spent much of the day catching up on sleep (don’t want to get sick again).
More, however, from The Examiner.

Thanks, Linde! They were selling drumsticks at the Grammy exhibit, but those were pretty expensive, so I was really surprised they were giving us a pair that was specific to the event.
Also, Billboard has an article on the event.

Thanks, Trud!! Glad to have a forum to share these things.
* LA Times blurb on Ringo’s Photograph event. More will appear in today’s Calendar section. Also, a photo at Rolling Stone‘s site.
* NorthJersey.com article on the teens in that one photograph. Doesn’t look like there’ll be a reunion of survivors, though.

I know what you are talking about, parlance. I think we’d all bust without having each other as a release valve.

LA Times’ Calendar article here. The writer and I have a difference of interpretation of events in the beginning, though:
“That’s one of me!” said Ringo Starr excitedly when he saw his face on the big screen Wednesday. “I like that one!”
Ringo wasn’t excited so much as being wry. The Arclight was having technical issues, and as we waited in silence for something to happen, Ringo spoke up for the first time as the slide show was going: “Well, here’s a picture of me…” making us all laugh.
One of my favorite stories of the day was from the photographer, Henry Diltz, who told a story of shooting a Beatle rehearsal, and being worried he’d get in the band’s way. So he asked Ringo if he was okay with him shooting around them. And Ringo said to him, “Look. I’m the drummer. You’re the photographer. It’s that simple!”
So, after that, we got a taste of Ringo’s frank nature at the beginning of his portion of the Q&A. He addressed the audience for a bit by way of introduction to the book. Then, he turned to the moderator and said, “So, you got a question for me, lady?” LMAO! Two of the women next to me were also laughing. I think we were pretty much the giggling gallery for the event.
Witnessing that famously gruff sense of humor in person was so thrilling, definitely the highlight of the event for me.

parlance, thank you for giving me such fun mental pictures of Ringo. You do better than the pictures posted on the internet about the event. Your description is more intimate and sounds like you understand him. He sounds like he would be so much fun to hang around with.

WNBC TV had a re-creation this morning of one of Ringo’s pictures: young fans packed in a car waving at the camera. The same fans now 50 years older sat in the same (or similar) car and struck the same pose. A good little story.
