Due out this coming July: Ringo: With a Little Help, by Michael Seth Starr. From what I gather, Michael Starr has already written books about Art Carney, Red Foxx, Bobby Darin, and a few other celebrities. Has anyone read any of those other books to be able to gauge what kind of a writer/researcher Michael Starr is?
I’m hopeful, because up until now the only other book that even attempted to trace Ringo’s life was Alan Clayson’s book, and it wasn’t exactly an easy read (in my opinion anyway). The prose was a bit … I don’t know … needlessly dense? I’m hoping Michael Starr’s book will be a bit of an easier read.
However, I did see that Ringo came out and publicly distanced himself from this book back in 2012: “There is an unauthorized biography being written by Michael Starr and I want my friends & fans to know it has nothing to do with me. I’m not participating with it at all. Peace & Love, Ringo”
Not that that’s a huge deterrent for me. I figure if Ringo can’t be bothered to finally authorize a biography, then unauthorized biographies are all we’re going to get, and we’ll have to make due with that.
Looking forward to this book’s release, though.

Agreed – thanks for the update. I’m hoping it will go into his childhood in great detail. We already know where they ended up. Events that led to how they got there and shaped them as people fascinate me.
I have not read any of the other biogs you mentioned and am curious if anyone else here has and what their thoughts are.

I generally prefer unauthorised bio’s. Who really wants the approved of version of someone’s life? Give me an autobiography (ghost-written if need be) or an unauthorised every time. I’m not interested in the towing-the-party-line needed for an authorised.

I must say I agree.
Also, nice to have more books on Ringo.

I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while…I plan on getting it. We’ve got great bios of the other three but nothing good on Ringo. This one hopefully will fill the role for our favorite drummer!

I’ll have to keep an eye out for this. The Ringo sections in Beatles books tend to get repetitive and vague. Almost like they brush over him to discuss Lennon/McCartney!
The only Ringo book I have is the Ringo Starr Encyclopedia by Bill Harry which I got dirt cheap on Amazon. It’s really thorough from his personal life to his professional career. (Link for Amazon UK)

Thanks for the heads up @mstarr.
For anyone wondering about the link it leads to NetGalley and a forthcoming biography on Ringo called ‘Ringo: With A Little Help‘.
Note: I’ve moved your post and my reply over to here @mstarr as your book is already the subject of the thread.

I’ll probably buy this but I’m going to wait a while. At the moment I have a ton of Beatles books I haven’t even cracked open. I still haven’t finished the John Lennon art book, Anthology, or the BBC archives book. Then I haven’t even started the new Davies book about the Beatles lyrics or Tune In. And I have biographies of George and Paul and John that I haven’t started. My bookshelf is overflowing.
…and I’ve ordered Ringo’s Photograph book.
