I’m trying to find original sources for a variety of quotes, including this one from George Martin. It’s widely quoted, but I can’t identify where it comes from to start. A Martin interview, I assume, but conducted by who and published where?
“The truth is, deep down they were very, very similar indeed. Each had a soft underbelly, each was very much hurt by certain things. John had a very soft inside to him. But, you see, each had a bitter turn of phrase and could be quite nasty to the other. It was like a Tug Of War . Imagine two people pulling on a rope, smiling at each other and pulling all the time with all their might. The tension between the two of them made for the bond.”

One quote I’d like to find the source for was from Paul, circa 1989, I think in an interview in some bass guitar magazine (an actual hard cover magazine in those ancient times), where he was talking about how he tends to like to play solid, simple bass lines using mostly deep notes way down low and not too many fancy riffs up high, and he said (to paraphrase):
“You’ve gotta have some ass down there!”
I thought that was a good play on words — ass/bass.
Faded flowers, wait in a jar, till the evening is complete... complete... complete... complete...
