Hey-ho. I just came across this book as I was doing some collection development for my library.
Book description from Amazon:
Since John Lennon composed Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds in early 1967, fans and music critics alike have argued over the meaning of the song. Is it about drugs? Is it just a lyrical response to a drawing given Lennon by his 4-year-old son Julian? Is there some deeper meaning? Professor Tim Kasser goes beyond speculative explanations by applying innovative psychological methods to the song’s lyrics and music. He deeply analyzes the song’s linguistic structure, its basic theme, and the way its words and music had been used by Lennon in earlier songs. As the findings accumulate, Kasser weaves them together with the facts of Lennon’s life and established psychological theories to provide an integrative (and sometimes surprising) perspective on the psychological processes that led Lennon to write Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds . Kasser goes on to follow the unfolding of these personal dynamics in later Lennon songs like I Am The Walrus , Yer Blues , and Working Class Hero .
No other book has so closely examined this period of Lennon’s life with such a sophisticated psychological approach. Kasser’s methods and perspective point to the usefulness of scientific psychology for understanding why a particular person does a particular thing at a particular time, at the same time that they shed new light on this fascinating and controversial man.

From Beatles News:
She Loves You , the long-awaited 3rd volume in The John Lennon Series has just gone to press for its 7 February 2014 release. The expanded biography of John Lennon , which was supposed to have been available for Lennon’s birthday in 2013, was delayed in publication because of the size and complexity of its scope. With 946 pages, extensive end notes for each chapter and almost 4000 footnotes, the book covers 1963-mid 1964, an era that saw The Beatles experience four tours of the United Kingdom, a stint in Sweden, a stay in France, and the historic first visit to America (including three Ed Sullivan Shows and the Carnegie Hall performance).

I just found a brand new Beatles’ book in our local library called “All The Songs.” I don’t know if it has already been discussed here, but it is so new that I was the first one to take it out of the library. It is huge, and includes stories and trivia about every recording session. I’ve already posted this interesting fact in another thread: https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..at/#p92662 Ringo’s drumbeat in the song “Boys ” starts out at 150 beats-per-minute, but by the end of the song, he slows down to 140 bpm. See if you can hear the difference. I can’t, and I’m kinda glad about that. I don’t want to hear all the flaws. But I do like reading “All The Songs.”

The Examiner has an article on The Fab One Hundred and Four: The Evolution of The Beatles From the Quarrymen to the Fab Four:
When one thinks about The Beatles’ early history, there are several names naturally come to mind, but the story of the evolution of The Beatles is about lot more which author David Bedford (“Liddypool: Birthplace of the Beatles”) tells Beatles Examiner he has revealed in his new 400-page book “The Fab One Hundred and Four: The Evolution of The Beatles From the Quarrymen to the Fab Four.” The book, being released this month in the UK, will be launched in Liverpool Dec. 13, London two days later, and early next year in the U.S.

Only fitting considering the last 20,000 have been about Paul.

Not completely new, but out since October. At the record store, I saw this, Beatles Solo: The Illustrated Chronicles of John, Paul, George, and Ringo after the Beatles by Mat Snow. It’s a nice collection of four books with photographs in a box.

DrB has a link to a review of this on his blog – I think it is earlier in this thread. I would have liked this if it was a bit more comprehensive – Mat says on Amazon that it is for casual fans – but the extracts I have seen look like they are from some teen pop magazine in the 60s.

Oh, sorry, missed that. The photos are really nice though. If I had an extra $36, I’d buy it.

Yes – they do look nice. It is A$70 in the shops here – way too much for me and what is in it. I’ll keep an eye out for a special or cheap ebay shipping closer to my birthday

Have found out that Allan Kozinn’s book “Got That Something ! How the Beatles’ ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand ‘ Changed Everything” is only availabe as an ebook but also costs less than £2 on iBooks or kindle. Not a bad thing to have on your phone/iPod/whatever.
I was wondering tho which is better the kindle app or iBooks and if its at all possible to print out an ebook so it can be read like a proper book (i don’t have an ipad). Anyone able to help?
Thanks.

Someone should write a book, a whole, at least 100 page book, about EACH individual Beatles song. That’d be a lot of books. One a month! How about everyone on the forum writes one about a different song, it can be anything, a non fiction on how it was written, a fiction story telling the story of the song, blah, blah, blah, blah…*continues babbling nonsense about things that won’t happen and would take forever*

Interesting, though, like you say, probably unrealistic, thought. No harm in throwing out the idea.

News via The Examiner from the revised edition of Dean Johnson’s The Beatles and Me:
The compilers of the book “The Beatles And Me” announced the discovery of a document Jan. 10 that reveals new information on Paul McCartney ‘s early history and show him dabbling in drama in the years before Beatlemania, author Dean Johnson tells Beatles Examiner.
Recently discovered pages from a school play program dating from February, 1960 that was presented at the Liverpool Institute, which McCartney attended, shows him listed under the name “Paul McCartney ” as one of the assessors in the cast of the play “Saint Joan” by George Bernard Shaw. (You can see two pages from the document in this slideshow on this page.) The pages will soon go up for auction, Johnson says.
[*snip*]
A more detailed account of the story about the document will appear in an upcoming revised version of “The Beatles And Me” on Kindle, the author says.

Also on that list are newsreader Peter Sissons, former Tory cabinet Minister and London Mayoral candidate Steven Norris, plus someone called Brian Wilson! Bit of a mixture? I was wondering if my Uncle was on that list as he was at ‘The Inny’ then.
