Ringo’s doing a world premiere event of the Genesis publication of Photograph at an undisclosed location in LA on Oct. 23. You can buy different tiers of tickets at the site. [x-posted at the news thread]parlance
Read that quickly and I thought you had written “you can buy different editions of the book at the site”. Been at the New Macca Album thread.
I can see how you would make that mistake when glancing over the sentence with all that has been going on lately.
Hum, has anyone checked if Ringo’s book will have different editions/versions?

Behind That Locked Door looks to be one to read tho when is a question with the tome that is Tune In coming in November.
Every time I read about this event,
Two years later, when Dr Gilbert Lederman, a director of radiation oncology, all but forces a pitifully weak Harrison to autograph a guitar for his son just weeks before the Beatle’s death, the imposition seems almost as gross as the attack at Friar Park.
I feel sickened at suck a lack of professionalism, decency and respect. I hope he was promptly fired.
Edit: This article has information on what happened after George’s death (first two pages involve George):
The exceedingly private Harrison family, however, wasn’t interested in allowing the former Beatle to become Lederman’s pitchman from the great beyond. To stop the doctor from talking about her dead husband, Olivia Harrison filed a complaint with the State Board of Professional Medical Conduct, which fined and censured Lederman for revealing too much about his patient. To prevent the autographed guitar from potentially ending up on eBay, she slapped him with a $10 million lawsuit. (As part of the settlement, Lederman relinquished the guitar and agreed not to speak further about Harrison or the case.) The same week the case was filed, SIUH announced that Lederman would be replaced as director of radiation oncology.
According to a doctor at the hospital, Lederman blamed this unfortunate series of events on the fact that Olivia Harrison was “a little jealous that [George’s] attention was being devoted more to Gil than to her.”
And here are more details of the settlement.
Sick b*****d. There’s a special place in hell reserved for slime like that.

The new bio, George Harrison : Behind the Locked Door by Graeme Thomson is out now. Excerpts are available at The Daily Mail (which, frankly, makes the book look like a hatchet piece) and The Arts Desk (with interesting info about George’s relationship with Bob Dylan).

More on the Photograph book unveiling via Amoeba (x-posted at the news thread).
And I just got my confirmation email from Genesis. I’m so excited! But no cameras allowed, boo.

Staying with Ringo, the illustrated Octopus’s Garden children’s book has dropped in price to a fiver on Amazon.co.uk. I’d pre-ordered at £12.99 so I’m happy they charge the lowest price.

Just got another email from Genesis. The deluxe edition of Photograph is available for pre-order. Turns out it’s actually more expensive to pre-order than to attend the event next week with the VIP pass:
£595 (about $961) to pre-order
vs
$740 for the event’s VIP pass, which includes the book, breakfast, a tote bag and admission to a concert.
I don’t know who this applies to, but… if you have the cash and you were holding out on a pre-order… maybe you should just go.

Another email from Genesis. Those first 350 deluxe-bound editions sold out, and now the “Collector” edition – still signed by Ringo – starting with #351 is being sold. My guess is that this is the version that’s being made available at Wednesday’s event as it’s a couple of hundred pounds cheaper than the deluxe, but don’t quote me.

Are people really paying £595 for a book? And here am I thinking the deluxe Tune In is pricey at full price.
That first version sold out in an hour! Not only are people buying it but they’re really eager to part with their money. Where are these people, and can they fund a trip to see Paul in Japan?

This book has been mentioned upthread – Sylvia Nightingale was on the Magical Mystery Tour , and her book will come out in February. The Examiner did an interview with her.
I have to say, as non-insider Beatle memoirs go, I’m really looking forward to this one. I hope she’s a decent writer.

I was wondering if there had been a John Linda affair rumour in another thread after the whole Paul getting it on with Yoko nonsense. All we need is Ringo supposedly sleeping with Pattie and we will have each Beatle going with another Beatles’ wife.

See, thing is, it’s a booook. If it was just a book it wouldn’t cost so much.

* Examiner article on Changin’ Times by Al Sussman:
A press release said “Changin’ Times” will look at how America’s reaction to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in the 101 days following the tragedy from Nov. 22, 1963 to March 1, 1964 led to the Beatlemania explosion.

* WogBlog reports on a new ebook by NY Times music critic Allan Kozinin called Got That Something .
The new e-book chronicles the birth of the John Lennon –Paul McCartney -penned song and explains how it became the hit single that sparked the British Invasion.
“In Got That Something ! the author paints a vivid picture of the legendary songwriting duo at work, and the emergence of this distinctively British-sounding tune that — contrary to the assumptions of American record labels — became beloved in the United States, paving the way for the invasion to come and the lasting impact on American music that continues even today,” the Times said.
