Hi all. I thought I should check in as I haven’t been around too much lately.
I’ve started writing my first book! It’s looking really good so far, but I’ve got a long way to go. At the moment I’m collecting source material, outlining chapters and writing a first draft. I’ve done about 10,000 words so far. Busy, busy.
What’s it about? I’ll tell you in time – it’s a good idea and I don’t want another writer to steal it. It’s about The Beatles though (dur) and it’s the sort of thing you’d definitely want on your shelves. No, it’s not The Beatles Bible in book form.
I might ask some of you for help with old interviews etc as I go along (thanks so far to ITSWD and Mr Sun King – your scans have been put to good use).
I’ll probably be self-publishing, selling ebooks via Amazon and Apple, and also print-on-demand paper copies through Amazon’s CreateSpace. I haven’t thought about pricing yet, but the ebooks will probably be cheaper. Not sure when it’ll be on sale – I have to write it, get it proofed and copy-edited and sort out loads of little things (footnotes, index, advertising). Sometime next year hopefully.
For anyone interested, I’m writing it on the amazing Scrivener app, which is excellent for keeping notes, drafts and final copy in one place. If you’re a writer or student I thoroughly recommend you download the trial version.
Oh, I also have the perfect cover photo. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it cleared.
Anyway, this is an early warning. The site’s gone on the back burner for a while, but I will keep things ticking over when necessary.

Already thinking I might have bitten off more than I can chew. So much to write, so little time. Still, I’ll keep at it. Thanks for all the support!

Do we loyal dedicated passionate beatlebiblers get a discount when the book is released? For every post we get x amount off.
Good luck Joe, its hard enough writing an essay cant imagine what it costs to write a book (and i dont just mean finance).

Wow, I don’t think my IRL friends will even get a discount! It’ll be onsale through Amazon, so I don’t think there’s a way to sell it cheaper than list price. But this is all WAY ahead.
I’m actually tying up a few loose ends before I really start going for it on the book. I’ve interviewed someone from their early days and have talked to a couple more people who knew them, and I’ve got a stack of research material to get through. However, I want to try to finish off the site redesign before my head gets too full of book-related matters; otherwise it’ll never get done.

I’m sure it’ll be the best beatles book ever done. It would be the best beatles book if it were only a quarter as good as this website. Will it tell a story or will it be a fact book? I always thought a book would be intersting about what would have happened if the beatles never broke up or if stu had stayed in the band or so
Once there was a way to get back homewards. Once there was a way to get back home; sleep pretty darling do not cry. And I will sing a lullaby
It’s going to be broadly chronological, but focusing on a very specific aspect of their career. And it’s non-fiction, so there’s no speculation about what happened if Stu survived, if Yoko hadn’t arrived or if they’d signed to Decca (though they’d all make quite interesting stories).
Thanks for the kind words – it’s nice to know people are enthusiastic! I’ll post progress reports when I can, but there’s a loooong way to go.

Hard to believe I could be enthused about yet another new Beatles book, but you’ve managed to give us all something to look forward to! All the best in your endeavour, Joe, and if you get discouraged about the amount of work ahead, keep in mind that million-plus words you’ve already contributed here by way of comparison.
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Indeed, good luck; I know how difficult it can seem sometimes to research and finish a whole book! We’re all looking forward to it!
