Hi all – as per the subject I have seen this book on ebay (can’t stop once I started – sigh) and can have a new hardback delivered to Oz for around A$30, which seems a good price.

The question is – how good is the book in your view?

Thanks for any input.  I also have the Beatles Anthology on the way via slow boat, a very used copy but only A$15.  My instant gratification fixation is struggling under the weight of the (2 months from now!!) estimated delivery date – good training in becoming a better person I guess :)

It’s a first-person account of the lives and history of The Beatles, in large format with loads of photos.

It should be preserved in underground vaults for safekeeping.

So…  Yeah, it’s good.

E is for 'Ergent'.

I don’t know if it’s considered illegal but I found a free text version of it online for those who can’t afford to buy it.  http://www.scribd.com/doc/2511…..-Anthology

"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."

Thanks for the info folks.  Just to check – the one I am enquiring about is the one edited by Mike Evans and not the one by the Beatles et al – which I have purchased already off ebay and which will be here in about 20 years, or whenever it gets here by snail-mail cargo ship.

Satan is talking about Anthology. The Beatles Literary Anthology is an interesting collection of journalism written about them over the years. It’s interesting to look at how contemporary writers struggled to find the words and language needed to make sense what was happening, and how the view of things changed as the years went by.

Cheers – I suspected that it was the first one Satan discussed, hence my 2nd request.  Sounds like the Literary one may be worth a look.

Well I bought it, and I’m about 144 pages in and loving it.  The selection is varied, both in content and in point of view; plus it has a good mix of short and longer extracts / articles.  I was stunned at the elitism of “The Menace of Beatlism”, and not surprised that the author moved from the left to the right during the Thatcher years.  I loved “Beatle with a Future” by Gloria Steinem and the very personal testimony by Cynthia Lennon and also Carol Bedford.

The editor has done a very nice job – I’m looking forward to the next 300 pages.

Oh, and I have to laugh at the condescension shown by some of the writers; Noel Coward you can understand, some of the others should be ashamed of themselves.  It is ironic that some of the supposedly ‘upper class’ seem to demonstrate the least amount of it.
