Ringo Starr ‘s LIFTED – Fab Images and Memories In My Life with the Beatles From Across The Universe – is the beloved drummer and pop culture icon’s exciting new hardcover coffee table book. Due by Valentine’s Day 2022 and available exclusively online at Julien’s Auctions, LIFTED offers in words and pictures, Starr’s singular and revealing perspective on his time in the greatest band in music history.
“I am not writing this book as a Beatle historian,” Starr explains with a laugh. “I’m writing this book as a Beatle – and there’s only a couple of us who can do that.” Asked about the origins of this new project, Starr explains, “I didn’t keep all these photos. These fantastic images came back to me in recent years from Here, There And Everywhere – online and off – and have somehow helped me get back to seeing my life with The Fab Four through fresh eyes. A lot of the photos in this book I spotted on my phone and on my computer and ‘lifted’ them because they brought back so many fabulous memories. In recent years, I’d gather these Beatles photos that I sometimes barely remembered. After a while, I thought, how great it would be to ‘lift’ these fantastic photos and some of my other favorites for charity and tell my true tales that they inspire about what the four of us – John, Paul, George and Ringo – went through back in the day. And the best thing is that it’s all for a good cause because the money is going to our Lotus Foundation.”
According to Starr, “When people ask me about the Beatles, I often tell them, ‘You better ask Paul,’ because somehow he seems to remember everything. But along with great projects like Get Back , seeing so many of these amazing Beatles images has really brought back those days to me and all the love and friendship that we four shared back then. So this a book full of Beatle images that many people haven’t seen and stories that I’m sharing with a little help from my longtime writer friend David Wild. We’ve all been through a pretty tough time for a lot of people who’ve been locked down, and this book has really lifted my spirits and took me back to where I once belonged in a whole new way. And in the end, that’s why this new book is called Lifted. The Beatles changed my life forever. So it’s about getting back and giving back.”
Ringo Starr ’s LIFTED – Images and Memories In My Life with the Beatles From Across The Universe – is a beautifully designed hard cover with jacket, many rarely seen images overlaid with captions and quotes by Ringo Starr with help from best-selling author and award-winning TV writer-producer David Wild. In the Forward, Ringo will explain the origin and motivation for the exciting new book. Proceeds from LIFTED, including a Limited-Edition Signed Book, signed by Ringo Starr , Will Benefit The Lotus Foundation and will be Sold Exclusively Online at Julien’s Auction.
The Signature Edition (pictured above), with slipcase and signed by Ringo, is limited to 500 copies and costs $495 (while hugely expensive it’s worth noting that Ringo’s autograph sells for around $2000 at the moment, making it better value than it looks); there is also a more “budget” version, the limited – though it doesn’t say how limited – Collector’s Edition, which is the book minus the slipcase and signature, costs $59.

For anyone interested in a slightly cheaper signed copy of a Ringo book. Genesis still have a few copies of Another Day In The Life left at £365 with free shipping using the code Dec21.
Not as good a value as the Julien’s Auctions one, if you’re interested in selling it though. There are 2000 copies of ADITL, so quite a few floating around the place. If you’re just interested in owning a Beatles autograph – this is the one for you.

They’re actually very close pricewise, @AppleScruffJunior. If you convert $495 into sterling, on today’s exchange rate you’d be paying £368.68.

Still slightly cheaper then 😉 Yeah, I never keep track of £ to US$ so bit presumptuous of me to assume there would be a dramatic difference.
Basically buy the Julien’s Auctions one if you want something worth more bang for your buck.
The cover is absolutely hideous though!

I have all of his previous books but I may sit this one out. At this rate, The Beatles are coming out with new products more frequently than I have time or space for.
Didn’t he already do this anyway with the Postcards From Paradise book? It feels like he’s just cashing in at this point.

I think you may mean 2004’s Postcard from the Boys , @Let It Bleed, which was a collection of 53 postcards sent to him by John, Paul and George from the mid-’60s through to the ’90s, with a commentary from Ringo about the content of the cards and events surrounding them. Very different to this book.
(Postcards from Paradise is his 2015 album.)
He has previously released two books of photographs though – 2013’s Photograph, which was made up of 240 photographs from the family album while he was growing up and pictures he took himself during his Beatles years, along with his thoughts on them, while 2019’s Another Day in the Life, containing over 500 images is far less Beatles-centric, with the selection going up to the 2010’s, and containing much of his more observational photography, like pictures of roses and of peace symbols.
I’d argue these books are very different to the new one, and each other, as well, with the photos in each being centered on his photography, and the first concentrating on growing up and the Beatles years, while the second moves way beyond the Beatles and is more about him as a photographer than a chronicler of the Beatles.
I’d also suggest that it is a bit difficult to stand up the suggestion that Ringo is cashing in when he’ll not earn any money from it as all the profits from this book are going to charity.

I get why there would be thoughts of yet another picture book, the thought came to me too.
Regardless of the reasons given by Ron tho, this is an archive release and really such things should be encouraged. The more the vaults be opened the better. As long as it’s not with a 30 minute CD of unreleased material to ensure fans but it for music then why shouldn’t it be released. I would prefer the archives of all four flung wide as otherwise it’s buried away, we can always choose what we want to purchase. I’m therefore all in favour of the next book being 546 photos of bottletops Ringo has collected whilst out on tour from the 90s onwards.

He still has a load of his clothes, Stella dips into them every now and again for inspiration.
Is McCartney a hoarder or did he just know what was valuable?

It appears that Ringo will be publishing a book titled Lifted: Fab images and memories in my life with the Beatles. Looking forward to it as apparently there are “never before told tales” in it. Always good to discover new things.
