(note: 23 March 2014, Ahhh Girl merged the three threads on this book. The second thread began with post #15. The third thread began with post #39.)
I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve now got this book and it is without question the best book ever written about the Beatles / Liverpool. You can read about it here: http://www.liddypool.com/
I actually got my copy from Amazon.co.uk and it was £13 cheaper (at £22 ). It’s a big book (about LP size and around 1 1/2 inches thick) full of great photos and packed full of remarkable facts and figures.
I’ve been to Liverpool many times so maybe find it easier to relate to certain things, but if you want the definitive book on where the Beatles come from with all the places named and researched, then this is the one.
Oh and I’m not on any commision here (I have never heard of the author before) – just wanted to share my thoughts

skye said:So which one should I look for? Amazon lists one as published in October 2009 and the other is dated January 2010. Is there a difference?
My copy in 2009 and is the same as the book on the website. I would assume the website states 2010 as that is now the year. I would find it near on impossible that someone would update a book after less than a year……..and believe me, there is nothnig left to put in!

No it wouldn't have any other versions……wait till you get it! You'll love it

Sounds excellent- I think I may just buy it when my wallet will allow! I'm still saving for a trip to Europe (woopee!) I'm taking in March, so it may have to wait a while, but it most definitely sounds worthwhile!
I wonder how the cost will be when transfered to dollars? Probably quite pricey taking into account shipping and handling… i'll take a lookat some bookstores; doubt they'll have it, but it's worth a look-see.

I got mine in the mail today, and it sure is purdy! I haven't had much time to really dig into it, but the layout looks sharp. I did read the part about why Pete Best was dropped and it seems like the most reasonable explanation I've read: money split three ways > money split four ways.
What are your thoughts, mjb?
Ad hoc, ad loc, and quid pro quo! So little time! So much to know!

Because I got the Everett books at the same time I'm reading those first. I'm onto volume 2 now so hopefully I'll start on the Liddypool book within the next week or so. Of course I've looked at the pictures (as one does!) and I am very impressed with the look of it all.

We really need a library section or something. So many books, so little time.
And how is that fair? You convince me to spend $40 for this book and you haven't even read it? (I'm kidding – sort of. Seriously, finish the Everett books so we can talk about this! )
I started it last night (so John Wilkes Booth's family was from Liverpool? Too bad they didn't stay) and have just finished the section on Alf Lennon. I'm loving this book. My opinion of John's parents has gone up, but I'm not sure what to make of Mimi. But at this point, all I can do is take Julia Baird's word for it.

I finished the bios on the boys last night and was a bit dissappointed, but not surprised, that John's section was longer. I understand that with the drama of his family and his determination to make a name for himself, there is probably more to write about. But were Paul's, George's, and Ringo's family and school mates all under a gag order?
