Another Brick was on my list for sure! I think it’s at least a 4 minute song, and so I ran out of time. Also had Harrison’s “Brainwashed“
(If you’re curious to check out other shows, you can find them here Beatles and Friends) Thanks for the feedback. 🙂

50th Anniversary of Penny Lane / Strawberry Fields Forever .
We all know the story about Lennon’s wanting George Martin to splice two takes together, and how the two takes were in a different key, etc…
Well, listen to what would have happened if G Martin had NOT been able to blend the key and tempo of the 2 takes –
on this week’s Beatles and Friends

John Young just passed away. His picture should be next to the word “perseverance” in the dictionary.
His dream was to walk on the moon.
First he flew two missions around the earth (Gemini 3 [filming of Help !] and Gemini 10 [launch of Revolver ]) and one mission around the moon Apollo 10 [Lennon bed-in, recording of “Something “] before commanding a mission to the moon on Apollo 16 (and driving around on the lunar Rover).
He then commanded two Space Shuttle missions.
Here’s his Wikipedia bio John_Young_(astronaut)

WERE THE MOON LANDINGS A HOAX?
I am moving Billy Rhythm’s comments from the “50th Anniversary of the Yellow Submarine movie …” thread to this thread where it seems more appropriate.
Billy Rhythm says:
The Van Allen Belts were first discovered in 1958… The probe that attempted to measure what it found itself inside of found its instruments suddenly show a reading of “0”… The needle literally fell motionless for it wasn’t designed to process readings so unthinkable at the time, thus displaying no reading… We were only just beginning to understand their true nature with the first accurate readings from 1970’s missions… Skylab, if memory serves me correctly, was the first designed to measure the Van Allen Belts with accuracy, and if my memory is still serving me here, that was around 1973… Yet, we’re expected to believe that humans were adequately protected in their 1960’s Halloween Suits?! I mean, I just posted an OFFICIAL video from the 2010’s where one of their own engineers admits that they need to address this Serious Safety Concern “BEFORE we send people into this region of space”?!!…:-)
@Billy Rhythm
You devote a great deal of ink to these very real and serious Van Allen Belts.
Let’s start with what we can agree on: Neither of us is an astrophysicist. Therefore, neither of us can really argue this issue at great length.
What is also clear is that something that “poses a risk” does not imply an automatic disaster. The Corvair was a very unsafe car, but most people with Corvairs had no problem. Clinoril was determined to be an unsafe pain medication, but most people who took it loved it. NASA may have decided that in the name of the space race, it was worth the risk.
The Chinese are actively working on sending a man to the moon. Have THEY solved the problem?
Oh, and by the way, James Van Allen worked on behalf of the Office of Space Science at NASA and promoted the concept that astronauts going to the moon should devote some of their time to science… Check out the book “Taking Science to the Moon” by D. Beattie.
As previously noted, if NASA was lying to the world about the moon landings, surely 50 years out either an astronaut or someone working at NASA would have spilled the beans – and the Soviets would NEVER have allowed the USA to get away with it.

So… only an “astrophysicist” is qualified to ask the serious questions about “this issue at great length”? Convenient that you didn’t also move the video links from the other thread (containing testimony from those who ARE “qualified”), but most understandable for that wouldn’t bode very well for a thread that you regularly bump to plug your own work… It’s OK… NO ONE has solved the problem of getting humans through the Van Allen Belts so I really didn’t expect you to enlighten the human race either…

How about moving the conversation somewhere else other than a thread plugging your own book… You know… some of us might get the wrong idea here…:-)
How about being less touchy about where he moves it to? He moved it to the thread that had the most to do with space, as he certianly isn’t going to move it to the ‘All Purpose Getting To Know BB-ers’ thread. If you think there’s a more appropriate thread on this forum, do tell, but until you can show me the right thread, don’t kick up a storm about something that was the right move.
Anyway…
It seems like you have made your mind up firmly, and all of us have made our minds up firmly, and we are only giving each other evidence not to persuade, but to justify our position.
The Van Allen belts would have been hard to overcome, however, one must realise that they did have astrophysicists, and they could easily have worked out a solution if given 4 or 5 years. Also, radiation isn’t exclusive to space – it occurs on Earth naturally, so they had access to it to study it.
Some humans even survived Chernobyl and Fukushima, so being inside a spaceship with a HUGE amount of padding seems to be a lot less dangerous to me.
But I’m glad you didn’t try to argue the small things, like ‘the flag didn’t fly’, ‘the light seems to come from two directions’, etc. This way, I actually need to use my brain

How do you “overcome” something when you have absolutely no idea what you’re dealing with? They were only discovered in 1958, there were no accurate measurements made until the 1970’s, even then they didn’t fully understand their nature… Your knowledge of the region in question is comparable to that of NASA’s during the 1960’s if you’re going to compare the composition of this vast area of outer space to Chernobyl and Fukushima… saying that you’re comparing apples and oranges here would be an astronomical understatement…

Although the films and photographs have been proven to have been manufactured here on Earth, it still leads to arguing back and forth between the two sides… Many who actually believe we went admit to the faked footage, but somehow still justify in their minds that we went… It also strays away from the scientific problems with such an event happening, something that NASA is quite willing to have redirected… A popular suggestion is that we should’ve pointed Hubble at the landers that are supposedly still up there to silence the hoaxters once and for all… It’s going to take more than another doctored photograph to convince those who know about the impossibility of such an undertaking with our current technology…
I remember NASA’s very own poster boy Phillip Plait being asked about pointing the Hubble at the “landing site” and his response was that “The Moon was too bright and not designed for viewing objects so close to The Earth”… A few years later a couple of first-timers who had secured authorization to use The Hubble did, in fact, point the telescope at The Moon and took some really nice picture (not of the sight in question) to squelch this notion… Good Luck finding this image, by the way… I’ve seen them once years ago but have been unsuccessful in finding them in subsequent tries… Point is… Whether or not NASA were to release a photograph of The Flag where it should be, nobody in the naysayer camp will believe it’s real… That’s why I stick to the science… Follow the logic…:-)

Didn’t the original dispute take place in a space related thread?
I want no part in this but I saw no reason for the discussion to be moved over.

Billy Rhythm on the thread devoted to the 50th Anniversary of many exciting events including Apollo 8 launched (pardon the term) into the topic of whether the moon landings were fake. Apollo 8 involved no moon landing, and as such, this topic that fits in nicely here IMO is more of a distraction on the 50th Anniversary thread.
That said, I’m happy to discuss the topic on any thread.
