A listing for a book of this name has appeared on Amazon in the UK and US, with a publication date of 15 October 2020.
It would appear to be the first official “Let It Be ” 50th anniversary tie-in to have a release date attached, for while the Amazon pages gives little more than title and price, currently £38.21 in the UK and $35.12 in the US (down from $49.99), The Daily Beatle reports that someone interested in knowing more contacted the publisher, Callaway Arts & Entertainment, and was told:
The Beatles Get Back is the authorized story of the making of the “Let it Be” album and the Beatles’ break-up, told through exclusive photographs, transcripts of the recording sessions, and an essay by Hanif Kureishi. The book will be the companion to the film directed by Peter Jackson, both released next fall (exact date to be announced).
This has led to some speculation that Jackson’s film will miss the 50th anniversary of the original film in May. I don’t think this is necessarily so. The book could be timed to coincide with the DVD/Blu-Ray release, for which October would make sense for a film given a May cinema release.

Get Back: The Beatles on Amazon
[note: @Joe the Amazon links are straight Amazon links, you may want to edit them so they are Beatle Bible Amazon links and you get your fraction. Please do, would have done it myself but don’t know how.]
Thanks @Ron Nasty. I’ve changed your links so it should take people to their nearest/local Amazon site, and I’ll get a small cut from every purchase.
I ordered this from US Amazon, which came to around £32 delivered (as opposed to £38 on the UK site). Although of course the UK price might drop between now and release date, and the pound might tank against the dollar, so who knows what I’ll end up paying?
There’s no page count listed on the description, but it does say “Shipping Weight: 1.7 pounds”. Conveniently, my hardback Anthology is roughly 6.8 lbs, so (if the first figure is correct) we’re looking at something approximately a quarter of Anthology. That book was a shade under 400 pages, so we’re definitely not in blockbuster territory. My hunch is that the price will drop fairly quickly once the Let It Be hype dies down.
With regard to the anniversary of the original film, Apple has been fairly faithful to the original release dates for the 50th anniversary reissues of Sgt Pepper (May), the White Album (November), and Abbey Road (September). So we can reasonably assume there’ll be a Giles Martin remix of the album in May, and it would make sense for the Peter Jackson film to come out around the same time. The book coinciding with the DVD/Blu-ray would make a lot of sense, and I suspect that’s when they’ll also reissue the LIB film, all in time for Christmas. Don’t forget, the press release in January 2019 snuck in this line at the very end:
Following the release of this new film, a restored version of the original Let It Be movie directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg will also be made available.
Plans can obviously change, but I think the key word here is ‘following’. The Jackson film gives them a chance to rehabilitate the LIB project, then later in the year, once we’re all hyped up, they can finally let us have the original in all its restored glory.

No problem, @Joe. It was the obvious thing to do. AG and I spent an hour or three trying to work out how to do it but just couldn’t.
I love how they set up these virtually blank holding pages that give nothing away, someone contacts the publisher and someone provides a “press release” headline description of the book. Wonder if there’s someone in a bit of bother at Callaway?
Thought it’s interesting that author and playwright Hanif Kureishi is writing the essay; at the time of the album and film’s release, a fifteen-year-old British Pakistani living with the aftermath of Enoch Powell’s “Rivers of Blood” speech, to which there were several responses to in these sessions, not least the early versions of Get Back . Obviously a Beatles fan though, one of his novels is called The Black Album, and in 1991 he wrote an acclaimed essay published in The Guardian, now available on the British Library website, published as “How the Beatles changed Britain,” Kureishi now calls it “Eight Arms to Hold You.”
From the British Library catalogue description:
For Kureishi, the Beatles stood for possibility. They ‘represented pleasure’. Their flamboyant clothes were ‘gloriously non-functional, identifying their creativity and the pleasures of drug indulgence’. But pop music also drew Kureishi in for its potential to create political agitation. Pop was a democratising force, breaking down social hierarchies and creating a new, exciting culture. Kureishi believes that ‘it is pop that has spoken of ordinary experience with far more precision, real knowledge and wit than, say, British fiction of the equivalent period’.
It’s a fascinating insight into the Beatles cultural and social impact, the old guard, within and outside Britain. I love this paragraph:
By 1966 the Beatles behaved as if they spoke directly to the whole world. This was not a mistake: they were at the centre of life for millions of young people in the West. And certainly they’re the only mere pop group you could remove from history and suggest that culturally, without them, things would have been significantly different. All this meant that what they did was influential and important. At this time, before people were aware of the power of the media, the social changes the Beatles sanctioned had happened practically before anyone noticed.
As to weight, remember Anthology has quite heavyweight pages, so depends on the paper.
I think we could have quite a few Beatles releases this year, and that’s before we get on to what will be done for the hated 40th John anniversary.
I could easily see in May…
Giles 50th anniversary remix [1CD];
Giles 50th anniversary remix deluxe [2CD];
Jackson’s “Get Back ” cinema release (followed by “exclusive” on Netflix or something a month later);
“Get Back ” soundtrack album [1-2CD?];
Super Deluxe Giles 50th including his remix, the Jackson soundtrack, and at least a couple of discs of additional outtakes to what’s new in Jackson’s film.
October we get to a DVD/Blu-ray release, this book is the companion to, and what we could see is:
Lindsay-Hogg’s remastered “Let It Be ” [1 disc] (and I have a ? over that, ‘cos it only says made available, and that could be as a bonus on Jackson’s);
Jackson’s “Get Back ” [1-2 discs]
Jackson’s Super Deluxe “Get Back ” [4-6 discs, including the remastered Lindsay-Hogg as a bonus feature).

Totally expected. While they couldn’t head off a couple of major articles in music monthlies that have added a little to what we know of the film, the book would give too much away ahead of the release. We had so much Beatles to look forward to this year when I started this thread back in January…

Depends on how they go about presenting it all. If all the issues are whitewashed and it’s presented as four friends having a great time every day for 30 days then no.

While it’s in The Daily Beatle article about the delay mmm linked to, no reason not to have the full publisher’s description here:
The Beatles: Get Back Hardcover – August 31, 2021
by The Beatles (Author), John Harris (Editor), Ethan Russell (Photographer), Linda McCartney (Photographer), Hanif Kureishi (Introduction), Peter Jackson (Foreword)The most anticipated book in more than a decade by the legendary band, “The Beatles: Get Back ” is the official account of the creation of their final album, “Let It Be “, told in The Beatles’ own words, illustrated with hundreds of previously unpublished images, including photos by Ethan A. Russell and Linda McCartney. Half a century after the 1970 “Let It Be ” album and film, this milestone book coincides with the global release of Peter Jackson’s documentary feature film, “The Beatles: Get Back “.
The book opens in January 1969, the beginning of The Beatles’ last year as a band. The BEATLES (The White Album ) is at number one in the charts and the foursome gather in London for a new project. Over 21 days, first at Twickenham Film Studios and then at their own brand-new Apple Studios, with cameras and tape recorders documenting every day’s work and conversations, the band rehearse a huge number of songs, culminating in their final concert, which famously takes place on the rooftop of their own office building, bringing central London to a halt.
This book tells the story of those sessions through transcripts of the band’s candid conversations. Drawing on over 120 hours of sound recordings, leading music writer John Harris edits the richly captivating text to give us a fly-on-the-wall experience of being there in the studios. These sessions come vividly to life through hundreds of unpublished, extraordinary images by two photographers who had special access to their sessions?Ethan A. Russell and Linda Eastman (who married Paul McCartney two months later). Also included are many unseen high-resolution film-frames, selected from the 55 hours of restored footage from which Peter Jackson’s documentary is also drawn.
Legend has it that these sessions were a grim time for a band falling apart. However, as acclaimed novelist Hanif Kureishi writes in his introduction, “In fact this was a productive time for them, when they created some of their best work. And it is here that we have the privilege of witnessing their early drafts, the mistakes, the drift and digressions, the boredom, the excitement, joyous jamming and sudden breakthroughs that led to the work we now know and admire.”
Half a century after their final performance, this book completes the story of the creative genius, timeless music, and inspiring legacy of The Beatles.
And yeah…

However, whichever of you naughty mods decided my alternate title was a go, I am hugely disappointed in you as well…
