Thoughts on the book? My copy arrived yesterday. It’s beautiful. I need to spend a bit of time to fully appreciate it, but initial impressions are that they’ve done a wonderful job.

My copy came Tuesday – some stunning photos I've never seen before. There is one of Paul, John & George taken in the Bahamas in 1965. John is in the middle with his arms around both and I have to say it is one of the best photos I've ever seen of them!

My copy came today. I didn't realize the book was going to be that big… I got the package and I'm like I ordered one book, not an encyclopedia. Apparently I ordered George Harrison 's encyclopedia.
I'll try to start it either tomorrow or this weekend.

That's what I'm calling it. I flipped though a couple pages this morning and there is this picture of George and Dhani and my heart swelled.

I'm half way through. These pictures are amazing. I can't help but smile flipping through every page. He's such an attractive man with such an interesting life. This is probably my best investment I've made in a while. This book comes second to spending mucho denero (did I spell that right Mith?) on Paul tickets. Both worth my time and money.
Love you George!

Thank you for correcting me. The book is definitely worth it. I watched Scorsese's “No Direction Home” to fill the void of not watching George's doc. It's not the same but it was still really good.
One day we'll get to watch the documentary Mith. One day hopefully soon!

Don't worry. I got the first part, but I was so tired last night that I just turned off the DVD, and I might watch it tonight. But I haven't gotten the second part.

Someone in the comments section of my review has accused me of being sexist, misogynistic, mean spirited and churlish (their words). That’s new to me – I don’t think I’m any of those things.
I can handle the criticism if it’s justified, but I’m genuinely a bit perplexed by this. I confess I’m sometimes not great at anticipating how others will perceive things I’ve said, though I try not to be offensive. Your thoughts, good people of the Fab Forum?

Having just reread your review and your conversation I see nothing “sexist, misogynist, mean spirited and churlish” at all.
It is merely an observation on how fans respond to the partners the various Beatles have had over the years. As you, rightly, point out, Yoko would be hauled over the coals if she released an account of John’s life without giving much reference to Cynthia.
The only thing you did say that raised an eyebrow, in one of your comments today, was this:
Some former partners (eg Pattie Boyd, Jane Asher, Olivia Harrison, Nancy Shevell)…
Do you know something we don’t? Last time I checked, Paul was still very much married to Nancy…

With the caveat that simply because you don’t think you are those things, doesn’t mean you aren’t… I don’t read sexism or misogyny into your comments, and certainly nothing mean-spirited. It sounds like perhaps this commenter has seen such remarks against Olivia in the past and reacted/lumped your review in with them.
I haven’t read the book yet, but the whole film came up lacking in so many ways, with an emphasis on the good rather than presenting an in-depth, balanced view of George. It was part of my first exposure into George’s character, and I later told a friend that I’ve learned far more about George by reading interviews and being on this forum than I did from the film.

I wonder if june42 is misreading this line: “Playing down their relationship is Olivia’s prerogative…” I think she doesn’t understand that the word “their” means “Pattie and George”. I think she thinks you mean “Olivia and George”.
The only thing I can see that might be even REMOTELY construed as an attack is “Although she receives the credit on the book’s cover, there are precious few words by Olivia Harrison, George’s widow, herself.” Perhaps june42 thinks you think she doesn’t deserve to have her name on the book’s cover.?.?
Would someone go so far as to say that the word “precious” is misogynistic?
Other than that, I think june42 is reading things that aren’t there. She seems to have a filter through which she reads anything related to Olivia.

Thanks all! Good to know I’m not going mad (or sexist). I did get the impression she was taking quite a defensive position from the outset. I’m cautious about trying to second-guess too much, but I am quite curious to see if I get a response.

Possibly, though I haven’t seen much, if any, anti-Olivia stuff on my Beatles travels. She seems to be genuinely liked by most Beatles fans.
@Ron Nasty – good spot! I’ll take out the word “former” from that comment. Obviously I wish Paul and Nancy all the best and don’t wish to project my insecurity, jealousy or general craziness onto their relationship.

@Joe, jealousy? Eh? Are you and @Zig both scoping on Nancy? Good. I hope so. You two can keep her distracted while I make my move on Paul.

Nah, I’m not really jealous of anyone. I was poking fun at the crazed fans who get emotionally invested in the private lives of the Beatles.

Another one! Add petty and questionable to my list of personal qualities. Maybe I should change my forum signature.
You ascribe questionable and petty motives/behaviour to Olivia trying to portray her as resentful of Pattie, trying to portray their relationship as antagonistic . I have seen Olivia receive a lot of negative comments and outright hostility on a lot of social media f(Twitter/Youtube/facebook) from men most of which boils down to ‘how dare this woman represent George!’ I see some vitriolic misogyny accusing Olivia of appalling things which I will not repeat here- I can send links. I do not see Dhani getting similar abuse.
Olivia and Dhani not ask to be put in the situation of maintaining George’s estate and it is clear from interviews it is a difficult task. But every time something is issued like ‘Living in the Material World’ or the Apple Years Box set Olivia gets a stream of negative comments on social media from male George fans . These do not get directed at Dhani
Personally I believe if George trusted Olivia to maintain his estate (and it is clear from the terms of his will he did), then that is good enough for me
And are you aware that George did not even want to mention Pattie in ‘I, Me, Mine’ (out of respect for her privacy) and that Derek Taylor had to get him to mention her?
