The Beatles by Bob Spitz

The Beatles Complete Chord Song Book
I’ve previously owned (but passed to various Charity shops) in an attempt to scale down.
The Beatles Lyrics: The Songs of Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr. (I actually bought this before I’d heard most of the songs!)
A Hard Day’s Write by Steve Turner
The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics by Alan Aldridge
The Beatles Unseen Archives by Tim Hill & Marie Clayton
Here, There And Everywhere : My Life Recording the music of The Beatles by Geoff Emerick
John, Paul, George, Ringo and Me by Tony Barrow
Beatles Diary Volume 1 by Keith Badman
Lennon Legend: An Illustrated Life of John Lennon by James Henke
Lennon: The Man, the Myth, the Music – The Definitive Life by Tim Riley (I never actually read this!)
Finally, there was a book that was so poor I can’t even remember it. It was black and had a section at the end listing when the songs were written in chronological order and alternative (imaginary) track listings for the albums.
Are there any essential books this forum think I should read?

Riding So High. by Joe Goodden (founder of this site). Dealing with their relationship with drugs, it’s rightly been hailed as one of the most important new books about them in some time.

I’ll make a catalogue of the books I own in the future but my favourite story (and probably my most valuable Beatles’ book, that isn’t really worth much at all) about procuring a Beatles book is my copy of ‘A Cellarful of Boys ‘, Brian’s book (don’t correct me on that).
I was in a book shop in Galway buying a load of 2nd hand Beatle and Lennon books (I think my total was like €20). I was with my mam, and she was waiting for me to buy the books and leave. While the girl at the counter was totting up my total she said “oh you like The Beatles? Look what we got the other day!”, and she produces a 1966 2nd edition US printing of the aforementioned book. She hands it to me and I go “oh cool, it’s their manager’s book, I’ve never seen a physical copy of it before!”. My mam however, completely misunderstood the message and said “oh that’s very nice of them to give it you, ASJ”, and she put it in the bag along with the other books that I had bought. I think the girl behind the corner found it too awkward to tell me “oh wait no–“, and I was being herded out of the show by mam so that’s how I managed to get my copy of Brian’s book. I think it’s worth about €15 so it’s not going covering my retirement but I like having it on my shelf (and I’m sorry to the shop girl but I have spent €300+ there in the past 4 years so that should make up for it, right, right?!?!)

I have a Wish List of about 50 Beatles Books on Amazon, some of which are more expensive than others and I’m trying to convince myself not to buy any until I’ve read the ones I bought a the end of last year.
At the top of my wish list is Mark Lewisohn’s ‘Complete Recording Sessions’, the updated edition of ‘Beatles Gear’ and the two Walter Everett books – but they’re £20+ each + P&P for even second-hand copies.

I found out yesterday purely by chance that my digibook of ‘The Unreleased Beatles’ by Richie Unterberger has been updated to cover the anniversary releases of the ‘Pepper’ and ‘White Album ‘ sets.
I don’t even know how that happened.

I finished reading “The Beatles Lyrics” edited by Hunter Davies awhile back. It was quite good from what I remember, with pictures of original manuscripts and personal memoirs from Davies’ original book on the Beatles. It flowed nicely in chronological order and had lots of information on each individual song. I should probably read it again when I find the time.

I just borrowed The Beatles Lyrics as an ebook from my library.

Anyhoo,
I forgot that owned “The Love You Make” by Peter Brown and got the strong urge today to just throw it in the donate bin somewhere. On the opposite end of the likeability spectrum, I really want to own Tune In but I just have to settle for the copy I borrowed from the library. It really is my favorite Beatles book so far and I love all 2000 pages of it and I’m definitely gonna buy the second volume when it’s released. Besides that I have Here, There, and Everywhere by the late Geoff Emerick which I definitely plan on rereading sometime in the summer maybe.

These four books I have on Kindle. I’ve been through three physical copies of Revolution In the Head. Not that I like his views all that much but it’s the one source Beatle people tend to quote. Actually his views on the world were brilliant. On the Beatles not so much.
What is happening? And tell me how you've been.
