Can anyone recommend important books that I’m missing based on my collection?

Top of my list would be Many Years from Now, Paul’s official autobiography. I think it’s essential reading for any Beatle fan. And though opinions about this book on this board vary, Ian McDonald’s Revolution in the Head. I also really liked Pete Shotton’s In My Life for a more intimate glimpse at John. Ringo’s Postcards from the Boys . I hesitate to recommend this for anyone who’s not a completist, but George’s I, Me, Mine. I say that and I liked the book.

As for books I haven’t read yet, but are on my to-do list: Mark Lewisohn’s books prior to Tune In, A Hard Day’s Write, George Martin’s All You Need Is Ears and Summer of Love, Geoff Emerick’s Here, There And Everywhere .

Mark Lewisohns other Beatles books are a must (Chronicles, Recording Sessions, Live) and i’d heavily recommend John C Winn’s books (Way Beyond Compare, That Magic Feeling, Lifting Latches).

Thanks…that makes 15 more books I need!  I should have about 50 by the time I’m done.

Recently unpacked some boxes of books and came across books i bought new in back in the 90’s i had completely forgotten about. One is The Complete Idiots Guide To The Beatles which is a good book. Also found a revised and updated copy of Bill Harry’s Beatles Encyclopedia which had an entry for Beatles For Sale , felt like doing a dance.

[Not a recommendation just a post.]

I wouldn’t bother with Mark Lewisohn’s Beatles Live if you already have Chronicles. I don’t think there’s any information that wasn’t in the later book, although there was a flexi disc containing an early interview.

Can buy me love! Please consider supporting the Beatles Bible on Amazon
Or buy my paperback/ebook! Riding So High – The Beatles and Drugs

Don't miss The Bowie Bible – now live!

My take on Revolution In The Head is that it is written from a knowledgeable – though not perfect – viewpoint, provides a mountain of useful information, contains strong opinions which are always interesting and well argued even if you don’t agree with them, and has some spectacularly good writing, particularly in the opening essay setting the context of the 60s.

Tony Bramwell sent me a copy of his book “Magical Mystery Tours” which I received yesterday…he’s also agreed to an interview for my website once I’ve finished.

I also picked up a copy of a book that came out a few years back that looks interesting, called “Northern Songs” and is about the entire history of John and Paul’s publishing company and how they got screwed out of all of their publishing rights.

^It’s a good book until Yoko comes into the story, I have never read about somebody so anti-Yoko, dear Lord! Ask him why does he think Yoko planned Paul’s custom troubles in Japan, I have never seen/heard any evidence that backed his claim up…

I’ve skimmed through the ebook version before, and you’re right, he’s VERY anti-Yoko, even more than I am! I am working on a list of questions to ask him as I go through the book…it should be interesting, he was very accommodating and receptive to the idea.

Ask him why he is very anti-Yoko – or even better get Yoko involved via skype and then ask the question. Would make it a more ‘interesting’ interview.

 Not that it has a chance in hell of ever happening, but I wouldn’t want to interview Yoko anyway. Don’t you know she said that being accused of breaking up the Beatles is like being accused of murder?

Yoko using the Beatles to court publicity for her album. Boo! Hiss! (etc etc)

As I said on Reddit, I’d like to ask someone wrongly accused of murder if it’s totes the same.

Haven’t a lot of those who blame Yoko for the split declared her guilty as charged; she was the reason. So surely it be more fitting to say someone who is not guilty of murder being found guilty and sentenced accordingly, although admittedly that would be a stupid thing to say as i would imagine it would be nothing like it (tho not the first stupid thing Yoko (and with John) would have come out with).

Nice find.  Gives me hope I may yet find the 2 missing Lennon books that are still in a box somewhere on the property.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8Should clarify. When i posted “felt like doing a dance” i was referring to the added Beatles For Sale entry in the revised Beatles Encyclopedia, not finding that book. Personally i think it sucks (tho admittedly that’s based on the original edition which had so many errors and weird entry omissions, maybe the revised fixed them all – would have taken a long time to do soa-hard-days-night-paul-3).

On the topic of lost things in the house, somewhere in my house there is a Yellow Submarine /Eleanor Rigby 45″ somewhere along with a load of others (non-Beatles). Have torn the house apart trying to find them but no luck, they are somewhere however.

I kind of like it for its ‘quirky’ nature – like looking at the Harry personal scrapbook.  Here is the missus with Linda, here is me with one of the fabs, here is me back when I had my dodgy hairdo (oh, and you may be able to spot Paul in the background).

I managed to get it for 99p and only a couple of quid postage – got here within days.
