Just what the title said. I’m going through my collection and reading and re-reading books, and I’ve begun reviewing them on my blog. Here are the latest ones:
http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com…..ter.html (not really a review, just a little blurb and picture…I’ll get to a proper review at a later date)
http://rnrchemist.blogspot.com…..-read.html (reviews of 2 books)
Hope whoever reads these enjoys them!

Let me know what you think when you do! Of the batch, the most enjoyable were the first two John books.

An update: I’ve gotten advance copies of a few more Beatles-related books sent to me for review on my website. I’ve got a lot of reading ahead of me, but I can think of worse problems to have! I hope you’ll enjoy reading these reviews once I’m finished.

Hi DrBeatle. I’m not sure we need a new thread for every book review, so I’ve rolled some into a single thread. Please treat this as a discussion forum rather than a place to promote content (or use Pimp My Stuff for the latter).

You got it, Joe, sorry! I didn’t mean to pimp any content, just share my reviews and either let people know a book is good or if it’s bad, not to waste their money. My bad!
I’ll keep it on this thread from now on.

Thanks Drew. It’s not a problem. Btw, your thread titles got lost when I moved some of the posts, so the links are here without context (ie what the book reviews are of). Sorry about that.

No worries, Joe. And I went back and put the title next to the appropriate link, trying to make it a bit easier.

Nice reviews there, DrBeatle. Will have to check out the Harrison bio. The Day By Day book seems to have some similarities with Into the Sky with Diamonds.
I had to chuckle at your comments on typos in the Beatles Day By Day book. Speaking from experience, typos are equally excruciating to the author.
Analyzing the source of typos is a revealing experience:
Some are truly typos and are purely the result of suboptimal proofreading, as in writing Dob Dylan instead of Bob Dylan.
Many typos though are flat out mistakes.
So why are there mistakes?
– An editor may not be a super expert in the subject. He or she may pick up spelling and grammar mistakes, but not factual errors. (Not every Beatle author has the luxury of having mja6758 give the book a once-over.)
– An author writing about 1000 facts will double check the 950 facts he’s not 100% sure about, but will rely on his/her memory for the 50 others. Could be an error in there…
– Inadequate research. It may be hard to apply the word ‘inadequate’ to someone who’s spent 5000 hours researching a book – but perhaps the subject matter required 5100 hours.
– It’s become so easy to move text around that an author can easily cut and paste himself into an anachronism.
– Conflicting sources. Whom do you believe? Does majority rule? I initially had the Beatles arriving in Hamburg the day JFK was killed. I didn’t dream that up; I got that from a source – but the source was wrong.
– “Reliable” sources aren’t always 100% reliable. In his Howard Stern interview a few weeks ago, McCartney placed Revolver before Rubber Soul . Don’t you think he’d know??? Of course. It was a slip of the tongue, a senior moment. The point is that people who ‘were there’ don’t necessarily remember accurately.
P.S. this post has not been reviewed by an independent proofreader.

Ron, I hear you! For both of my books, typos drove me mad, especially since I did EVERYTHING myself (write, proof, publish, etc). I made sure my 2nd book had none…even after going after my first book over 20 times, I still caught some after it was for sale!

I know he wrote a live history of Blur as he mentioned it on here one time. I can’t remember what it’s called though.
