Paul is releasing a new book of 275 photographs he took in late 1963 thru the early months of 1964 and beyond on 13 June.
Doesn’t seem to have been officially confirmed yet, can’t see anything on his website, but it has appeared on Amazon in the UK for pre-order at the hefty price of £60. Credited to Paul McCartney (Author), Jill Lapore (Introduction), the Amazon description runs:
Photographs and Reflections by Paul McCartney
‘Millions of eyes were suddenly upon us, creating a picture I will never forget for the rest of my life.’
In 2020, an extraordinary trove of nearly a thousand photographs taken by Paul McCartney on a 35mm camera was re-discovered in his archive. They intimately record the months towards the end of 1963 and beginning of 1964 when Beatlemania erupted in the UK and, after the band’s first visit to the USA, they became the most famous people on the planet. The photographs are McCartney’s personal record of this explosive time, when he was, as he puts it, in the ‘Eyes of the Storm’.
1964: Eyes of the Storm presents 275 of McCartney’s photographs from the six cities of these intense, legendary months – Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami – and many never-before-seen portraits of John, George and Ringo. In his Foreword and Introductions to these city portfolios, McCartney remembers ‘what else can you call it – pandemonium‘ and conveys his impressions of Britain and America in 1964 – the moment when the culture changed and the Sixties really began.
1964: Eyes of the Stormincludes:
– Six city portfolios – Liverpool, London, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C. and Miami – and a Coda on the later months of 1964 – featuring 275 of Paul McCartney ‘s photographs and his candid reflections on them
– A Foreword by Paul McCartney
– Beatleland, an Introduction by Harvard historian and New Yorker essayist Jill Lepore
– A Preface by Nicholas Cullinan, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, London, and Another Lens, an essay by Senior Curator Rosie Broadley

I went to the exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery yesterday and it was amazing looking at all the great photos Paul took from 1963-64. There were also displays showing Beatles items from that time e.g. An original copy of the Christmas show programme and Jim McCartney’s cutting of the 7th – 13th December 1963 Radio Times cover which the Fab Four featured on. I collected my copy of the book from there afterwards. I bought an Eyes Of The Storm concertina book and a pen.
Has anyone else on here been to see it?

He has to save those to make more money from future books.

Also, I’d guess that many of them are just relatively mundane American sights and scenery that looked thrilling and exotic to Liverpudlian-raised young men long infatuated with the nation across the Atlantic.
It’ll be interesting if Paul’s photographic eye is revealed to be an impressive one, considering who he’ll marry in a few years.

Thank you for the info, @Rube.
I haven’t been to see it yet, but I noticed this interesting review by Andrew Dixon (who also reviews Eggpod LIVE!):
I wonder if Andrew Dixon ever posts on this forum?

Yes, it is incredible! I loved when Paul changed from black and white film to colour, as they all went to Miami. The blue sea and sky in this section pops.
In particular there is a photo of George Martin playing about by the pool with his wife, and it is utterly wonderful to see the playful, casual side of him.

I would say allow for 1.5 / 2 hours, it isn’t a huge exibition. Hope you love it!

Ahhh Mom is getting me this book for Christmas.
In the course of my work today, I discovered that 635 libraries have this book. Only one other book from 2023 is owned by more libraries. It leads by 28. So, get out there and ask your library to purchase a copy.
Edut: should have said it is next to top in the music category…not of all books over all.
