Whos Next is one of those albums you just can’t believe how many good songs come after one another. A nonstop stream of Rock Classics. Could have been even greater.
Absolutely, that album is a delight. The opener and closer should already tell you everything you should know about it. It’s quite unique. As much as I appreciate the concepts and progression behind Tommy & Quarophenia, both also amazing, they just don’t grasp the tightness of Who’s Next for me.
And yes, it is said it could’ve been a better album, with the whole Pete Townsend “note” concept or whatever that didn’t pan out. Maybe it could’ve been the second conceptual album in a mystical trilogy of conceptual albums alongside Tommy and Quarophenia but in the end it was just a scrap of songs, but well, I’m still glad it was made for sure. One of the best hard rock albums ever made.
The Songs Is Over and Getting in Tune are two of my absolute favourite Who songs, not counting Baba O’Reilly and ooh that ending in Won’t Get Fooled Again YYYEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHH probably the rest of the fcking tracklist as well, now you got me talking about it I love that album so much!! And @TheQuietOne seems to agree

Of my top five, two aren’t Beatles: Pet Sounds, and Dark Side of the Moon. Sometimes I think back to my favorite music from just a few years ago, and it amazes me how much my tastes have changed. And then it amazes me how little my tastes have changed. It’s a weird thought process I go through, to say the least.
Here’s something interesting, Lefty.
A couple of months back I tried to come up with an averaging list of best albums of all time according to literally the first pages presented by Google. I typed “the best albums of all time” or something like it and whatever albums came up I would toss into a ranker to average them out (I still have it actually, maybe by request I’ll post it). Pretty standard, you know, the albums you’d imagine to pop up.
But, oddly enough, the top 5 were specifically what you just said. There were 3 Beatles albums and the other two were Pet Sounds and Dark Side of the Moon. So what I’m saying is you have oddly average tastes. Which is completely fine btw I’m not judging, I’m just saying I’m amused you said precisely that.

I used to hate on Inception, but the more I’ve watched it the more I appreciate its awesomeness. Before it we didn’t hear BWWWAAAA during every move trailer but Inception uses it so well and its epic.

Bits of it online, I love the breakdown of the Michael McDonald harmonies on Peg, they’re so close together it’s like vocal chords! (Not unlike great Beatles harmonies like This Boy and Because , where they’re so spot on the air seems to vibrate around them.) Also my other half is always going on about the Purdie shuffle in Home At Last!

The Zep thread is locked… so i’m bringing Zeppelin over here.
Zeppelin 3 has never been my favorite of theirs, however I’m beginning to get more and more into it, especially after learning that Hey Hey What Can I Do was the B-Side to Immigrant Song and their only non album release. I’m so bummed they never played it live with the original lineup, but Jimmy’s done some nice versions including one with Plant and another with The Black Crowes.

(I’m going to assume that “not by the Beatles” includes their solo works and that “Best of” compilations don’t count either)
Electric Ladyland (Hendrix)
Axis Bold As Love (Hendrix)
Are Your Experienced (Hendrix)
The Stranger (Billy Joel)
Hot Tuna (Hot Tuna)
I could swap out the last two for
This Year’s Model and/or Trust (Elvis Costello)
Synchronicity (Police)
The Concert in Central Park (Simon and Garfunkel) [do concerts count?]
