Well done, @Beatlebug . That was so nice of you to present it in a format I could open!
As for the recording, it was very enjoyable. I’ve said it before – your voice sounds so natural. When people cover songs or sing karaoke, they try so hard to mimic the original singer’s inflections. It was great to hear you did not fall into that trap, but still stayed true to the other elements of the song (I was doo-doo-dooing along with you at around the 4:00 mark!). Your guitar playing gets better every time I hear it. It was also well mixed!
Keep up the great work.

Ahhh thank you so much, I am honoured that Lord Ziggus has spoken thus
I used to mimic the original singers religiously, but I stopped after hearing some of my recordings back and realising that I never would sound just like Mr Gilmour, no matter how I tried. It’s also that, somewhere along the way of playing a song 10,000 times, sometimes in very noisy settings without a microphone (with the band ), all that sort of affectation gets stripped away, and you’re left with your own voice and your singing.
And yes, I’ve improved ever so much and I still have a lot to learn, but I definitely think it’s cool that I managed to produce something that sounds reasonably not-off-key without any forethought.
I already posted this elsewhere, but I guess it really belongs here.

Ahhhh! That’s better.
I have put my headphones on in your honour and it’s been well worth it! Great sound you have from that guitar and it is properly in tune which many folks forget but it’s important unless you are Paul, in which case all the rules go out of the window. I was quite surprised that you did the whole thing, I know you said ‘multi-tracked’ but I was impressed with the second guitar and then all the bent notes and hammers later. Very good. And as for the vocal, I always think it’s not good enough to be able to sing perfectly in tune, you have to have a voice that is nice to listen to and interesting in some way, and you certainly have those things.
If you wanted something to work on I’d say the strumming pattern at the beginning is slightly off. (Only if you are looking to be faithful to the original) You are missing his mixture of up and down strokes (you’re using too many down strokes). You can hear what I mean best at 0.22 and 0.30. I really hope you don’t take this tiny criticism the wrong way because it’s a lovely cover with a great sound and vocal. I enjoyed the off-piste bit at the end too 🙂
And of course, well done to Pepperland for getting that nice clean sound.
I’m fiddling around with ‘Brain Damage’ at the moment, it sounds so easy but the picking at the start isn’t quite as obvious as it sounds, you can hear that no two people offering youtube ‘lessons’ have it the same!
Anyway, great job!

Hope no one minds my dropping* this here. There are no vocals so it goes on a bit. It’s also not completely mistake-free, but you may notice it sounds a lot better than previous attempts, as I just made a recording breakthrough: I taped the microphone on my headphones to the scratchplate of my guitar and it sounds SO much better!

*Raindropping, probably… I almost typed ‘dripping’ by accident… it is a very rainy day where I’m at so that may be some sort of influence…

That was so beautiful! I love how the full chorus sound so passionate and the single notes, on the other hand, sound playful and graceful. And the Rain outside somehow found its way into your cover: the atmosphere is so very fitting, all the time!
The recording technique is indeed really good, especially in the lower register I couldn’t hear any ‘strumming-sidenoises’ at all, but all in all also surprisingly little.
Thanks for another awesome cover!

Thanks, you two!
@Sugarplum fairy It’s the Page thing in this case, but I’ve used alternate tunings before — ‘A Pillow Of Winds’ by Pink Floyd uses an open E minor tuning, although it’s in E Major as well. I just use them when it’s a song I like that’s in that tuning. (And I try to avoid them on my Strat, for obvious reasons.)
And I am playing a Martin dreadnought, as he probably would have been, so the tone is pretty close.

Just needs some tidying especially where you get lost at the end plus Robert sitting next to you for the vocal!
A couple of little things you could work on (I’m no proper musician so you are welcome to disagree!) At around 17 secs in you damp those five big chords fully which makes them sound a little abrupt compared to the rest of the playing where you have all the subtlety of the slides spot-on for example.
I agree about mic positioning. It costs nothing to experiment and improvise with duct tape or anything else that works. I read a great thread about that by a recording engineer once, it was full of handy tips. If I can find it I’ll post the link. I did notice the sound is clipping a bit at times. Or maybe it is just your mic improv vibrating a bit.
Keep posting!

I know, right? I’ve done a re-record; I plan to record vocals over it, though I can’t sing Robert Plant to save my life so it won’t be anywhere near the original.
And I love that version — it’s actually the first version of it I heard, and the second Zepp thing after Stairway To Heaven. It’s to blame for rather a lot.

Okay, thanks for the tips! If by sound clipping you mean the slight distortion on the loud frequencies, that’d be my improv mic to blame. One of these days I’ll sort out something better…

That’s a beautiful cover as always, Silly Girl! The slides are incredible, you captured the spacey, unearthly feeling just the right way and contrasting that, the vocals seem extremely near to the listener, that’s a cool contrast!
The only thing I noticed which could maybe be improved, is that the recording sounds very soft and a bit muted whereas the original is brighter, shinier and also a little sharper (not regarding being in tune) IMO. But I bet that has got something to do with the microphone, hasn’t it?
