As I read your post, I was loading the soundtrack to “The Last Waltz” into my iTunes. The concert includes a performance by Joni Mitchell who actually wrote the song you just mentioned, Woodstock. Also performing in The Last Waltz was Neil Young (the Y, of course in “sometimes Y”) and Stephen Stills was a part of the incredible jam session which occurred after the concert into the wee hours of the morning.
And, who played the drums during that jam session?
I love life's odd little rock & roll moments.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, let it roll for all its worth. And all the children boogie.

Now here I go again, I see, the crystal visions
I keep my visions to myself
It's only me
Who wants to wrap around your dreams and…
Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?
Dreams of loneliness…
Like a heartbeat drives you mad…
In the stillness of remembering
What you had
And what you lost…
What you had…
Ooh, what you lost
–Dreams by Fleetwood Mac
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

Speaking of whom, I love the lyrics to the song that inspired another in this thread, Blue:
Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I've been to sea before
Crown and anchor me
Or let me sail away
Hey Blue, THERE is a song for you
Ink on a pin
Underneath the skin
An empty space to fill in
Well there're so many sinking now
You've got to keep thinking
You can make it thru these waves
Acid, booze, and ass
Needles, guns, and grass
Lots of laughs, lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that hell's the hippest way to go
Well I don't think so
But I'm gonna take a look around it though
Blue, I love you
Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you'll HEAR a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me
I told her I didn’t

Rocking In The Free World – Mr. Sometimes Y
There's colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin' their feet
People sleepin' in their shoes
But there's a warnin' sign
on the road ahead
There's a lot of people sayin'
we'd be better off dead
Don't feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she's done to it
There's one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.
Or Ohio -CSNY
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are cutting us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.

My favorite song by Bob Dylan, with some of the best lyrics of all time. (And some of the lyrics are my signature)
May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.
-Forever Young Bob Dylan

And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
Brain Damage by Pink Floyd
Don't let your mind get weary and confused
Your will be still, don't try
Don't let your heart get heavy child
Inside you there's a strength that lies
Don't let your soul get lonely child
It's only time, it will go by
Don't look for love in faces, places
It's in you, that's where you'll find kindness
Be here now, here now
Be here now, here now
Don't lose your faith in me
And I will try not to lose faith in you
Don't put your trust in walls
'Cause walls will only crush you when they fall
Be here now, here now
Be here now, here now
Be Here Now by Ray LaMontagne
I'm gonna love you
Till the heavens stop the rain
I'm gonna love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I

Just a few, there are tons more where that came from.

Kiss me out of desire, baby, not consolation. — Jeff Buckley Last Goodbye
Meet me any place or anywhere or any time
Now I don't care meet me tonight
If you will dare, I will dare. — The Replacements I Will Dare
Oh, I said “I'm so happy, I could die.”
She said “Drop dead,” then left with another guy… — Elvis Costello (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes
I don't know
I don't know which side I'm on
I don't know my right from left

Nice choice – I highlighted my favorite lines.
Yet another great song that made it on to The Last Waltz. Have I mentioned in the past 5 minutes how much I enjoy that Rockumentary?
I can't wait to see what Scorcese turns in when he releases the one about George. Has anyone seen/heard any updates? I checked the web, but nothing recent – the damn thing has been in post-production for almost a year now!

AND IF I SAY I REALLY KNEW YOU WELL,
WHAT WOULD YOUR ANSWER BE?
IF YOU WERE HERE TODAY.
UH, UH, UH, HERE TODAY.
WELL, KNOWING YOU,
YOU'D PROBABLY LAUGH AND SAY
THAT WE WERE WORLDS APART.
IF YOU WERE HERE TODAY.
UH, UH, UH, HERE TODAY.
BUT AS FOR ME,
I STILL REMEMBER HOW IT WAS BEFORE
AND I AM HOLDING BACK THE TEARS NO MORE.
UH, UH, UH,
I LOVE YOU, UH.
WHAT ABOUT THE TIME WE MET? (what about the time?)
WELL, I SUPPOSE THAT YOU COULD SAY
THAT WE WERE PLAYING HARD TO GET.
DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A THING,
BUT WE COULD ALWAYS SING.
WHAT ABOUT THE NIGHT WE CRIED? (what about the night)
BECAUSE THERE WASN'T ANY REASON
LEFT TO KEEP IT ALL INSIDE.
NEVER UNDERSTOOD A WORD,
BUT YOU WERE ALWAYS THERE WITH A SMILE.
AND IF I SAY I REALLY LOVED YOU
AND WAS GLAD YOU CAME ALONG.
THEN YOU WERE HERE TODAY,
UH, UH, UH, FOR YOU WERE IN MY SONG.
UH, UH, UH, HERE TODAY.

Yeah, I saw that. As a matter of fact, that IMBd listing has been there since 2009. I know that Marty is a busy dude, but enough already.
Thanks, Pterodactyl.

Hm. Well, obviously, good lyrics are better than bad ones, but ultimately they're not of particular importance compared to the music which supports them. I like all the usual suspects – Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell – but their stuff's all too long to quote so I'll stick with just this one, “History Lesson” by the Minutemen (who specialized in under-a-minute songs):
The body of General George A. Custer
He didn't die with any honor nor any dignity nor any valor
An American general, patriot and Indian fighter
He died with s**t in his pants!

Good, because as a Canadian, I don`t like insulting Americans in any way except sarcasticly.

I agree, us US Americans don't take too kindly to insults from you Canadian folk.
But my favorite lyrics are Working Class Hero , I don't think anyone has made a more meaningful political song.
“As soon as you're born, they make you feel small,” just an incredible opening line.
“They hate you if you're clever, and they despise a fool. Till you're so f*****g crazy you can't follow their rules.”
“Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV, and you think you're so clever and classless and free.”
That man was a genius, the last line was about hippies or whatever but it's still so true because of how apathetic our society is due to problems not directly affecting us, so we act like everything is cool but it's really not.
