Waiting on summer:
“Summer’s here and the time is right for dancin’ in the street” Dancing in the Street — Martha and the Vandellas (Marvin Gaye, Ivy Jo Hunter, Mickey Stevenson)
“Summer’s here and the time is right for fighting in the street, boy” Street Fighting Man — Rolling Stones
“Summer’s here and the time is right for racing in the street” Racing in the Street — Bruce Springsteen
Summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in your seat! My own variation, in anticipation of summer rock concerts…
That’s a lot of doing things in the street in your post!
Maybe those are the reasons for not doing it in the road.

In another thread, @The Hippie Chick reminded me of this. From CSN’s ‘Helplessly Hoping’.
Wordlessly watching he waits by the window and wonders,
At the empty place inside.
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams he worries,
Did he hear a good-bye?
Or even hello?

Some of my favourite lyrics from one of my favourite Led Zeppelin songs; That’s the Way.
“And yesterday I saw you kissing tiny flowers
But all that lives is born to die
And so I say to you that nothing really matters
And all you do is stand and cry
I don’t know what to say about it
When all your ears have turned away
But now’s the time to look and look again at what you see
Is that the way it ought to stay?”
A beautiful tune, even without looking at the lyrics.

In the year of ’39 assembled here the Volunteers
In the days when lands were few
Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn
The sweetest sight ever seen.
And the night followed day
And the story tellers say
That the score brave souls inside
For many a lonely day sailed across the milky seas
Never looked back, never feared, never cried.
Don’t you hear my call though you’re many years away
Don’t you hear me calling you
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.
In the year of ’39 came a ship in from the blue
The volunteers came home that day
And they bring good news of a world so newly born
Though their hearts so heavily weigh
For the earth is old and grey, little darling we’ll away
But my love this cannot be
For so many years have gone though I’m older but a year
Your mother’s eyes from your eyes cry to me.
Don’t you hear my call though you’re many years away
Don’t you hear me calling you
Write your letters in the sand
For the day I take your hand
In the land that our grandchildren knew.
Don’t you hear my call though you’re many years away
Don’t you hear me calling you
All your letters in the sand cannot heal me like your hand
For my life
Still ahead
Pity Me.

Though everywhere I look there’s variations of certain lines (), the entirety of Ten Years Gone by Led Zeppelin is just true poetry; I especially love the bits about eagles. Kudos to you, Percy! (Sidenote: the instrumentation is equally as beautiful, so I highly recommend giving it a listen! )
“Then as it was, then again it will be
An’ though the course may change sometimes
Rivers always reach the sea
Blind stars of fortune, each have several rays
On the wings of maybe, down in birds of prey
Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn’t have to grow
But as the eagle leaves the nest, it’s got so far to go
Changes fill my time, baby, that’s alright with me
In the midst I think of you, and how it used to be
Did you ever really need somebody, And really need ’em bad
Did you ever really want somebody, The best love you ever had
Do you ever remember me, baby, did it feel so good
‘Cause it was just the first time, And you knew you would
Through the eyes an’ I sparkle, Senses growing keen
Taste your love along the way, See your feathers preen
Kind of makes makes me feel sometimes, Didn’t have to grow
We are eagles of one nest, The nest is in our soul*
Vixen in my dreams, with great surprise to me
Never thought I’d see your face the way it used to be
Oh darlin’, oh darlin’
I’m never gonna leave you. I never gonna leave
Holdin’ on, ten years gone
Ten years gone, holdin’ on, ten years gone”
*This is my favourite line.

Listening to this song I’ve wept, I’ll admit that. For some its lyrics may not be as touching, but for me they have a sense of inevitability which turns them into a reflection on human Destiny. The way Sting (wink wink @mr-kite-2) uses the deck of cards is brilliant. I’m including a link to a video somebody made with scenes of Leon, The Professional, a touching movie as well, a story of redemption through love (the song is part of its soundtrack). I recommend it. From Ten Summoner’s Tales, then, Shape of my Heart:
He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn’t play for the money he wins
He don’t play for respect
He deals the cards to find the answer
The sacred geometry of chance
The hidden law of a probable outcome
The numbers lead a dance
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that’s not the shape of my heart
He may play the jack of diamonds
He may lay the queen of spades
He may conceal a king in his hand
While the memory of it fades
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that’s not the shape of my heart
And if I told you that I loved you
You’d maybe think there’s something wrong
I’m not a man of too many faces
The mask I wear is one
Well, those who speak know nothing’
And find out to their cost
Like those who curse their luck in too many places
And those who fear are lost
I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier
I know that the clubs are weapons of war
I know that diamonds mean money for this art
But that’s not the shape of my heart
That’s not the shape, the shape of my heart
