Ok stealing something from another beatlebibles section…
As I said before, I'm listening to a lot of the music I used to listen before I entered in a Beatlemania phase (meaning I listen to Beatles only), and I find myself remembering amazing lyrics. One of my favorite singers is Janis Joplin. I love her. I mean, her songs are romantic but not the “puppy-eyes” attitude, but more like “Ok babe, let's dance together and see if this works out”.
My favorite song of her is Me and Bobby McGee written by Kris Kristofferson. My two favorite lines are : Freedom is just another word for not left to lose. and But I'll trade all my tomorrows for just one yesterday, to hold Bobby's body next to mine.
Just love it. So, anybody want to share their favorite lyrics?

From Positively 4th Street – Bob Dylan
“I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
And just for that one moment
I could be you
Yes, I wish that for just one time
You could stand inside my shoes
You'd know what a drag it is
To see you”

I could go on forever with just Bob Dylan lyrics alone. But I'll limit myself to a few…
She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a bad situation
But I used a little too much force.
–”Tangled Up in Blue”
You used to be so amused
At Napoleon in rags
And the language that he used
Go to him now, he calls you, you can't refuse
When you got nothing, you got nothing to lose
You're invisible now, you got no secrets to conceal
–”Like a Rolling Stone”
Inside the museums
Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo, this is what salvation
Must be like after a while
But Mona Lisa musta had the highway blues
You can tell by the way she smiles.
–”Visions of Johanna”
Oh, what did you see, my blue eyed son ?
And what did you see, my darling young one ?
I saw a newborn baby with wild wolves all around it
I saw a highway of diamonds with nobody on it
I saw a black branch with blood that kept drippin'
I saw a room full of men with their hammers a-bleedin'
I saw a white ladder all covered with water
I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken
I saw guns and sharp swords in the hands of young children
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

Long before there was an angry John Lennon , an angry Bob Marley, an angry Joe Strummer, there was of course Bob Dylan's hero, Woody Guthrie, who wrote one of the greatest songs ever. Most people have only listened to the chorus and assumed it's a nice patriotic little tune. Listen to the whole thing and pay attention to the last two verses…
“This Land is Your Land”
Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me
Chorus
As I was walkin' – I saw a sign there
And that sign said – no tress passin'
But on the other side …. it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!
Chorus
In the squares of the city – In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office – I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.
Chorus (2x)

Weird. The lyric “Freedom is just another…” was my facebook status today. I love this song and Janis.
But here are a couple of my favorite:
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
–Your Song by Elton John
I wanna glide down over Mulholland
I wanna write her name in the sky
I wanna free fall out into nothin'
Gonna leave this world for awhile
– Free Fallin' by Tom Petty
Wild horses couldn't drag me away
Wild, wild horses, we'll ride them some day
–Wild Horses by The Rolling Stones
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery;
None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy,
'Cause none of them can stop the time.
How long shall they kill our prophets,
While we stand aside and look? Ooh!
Some say it's just a part of it:
We've got to fullfil the book.
Won't you help to sing
This songs of freedom-
'Cause all I ever have:
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs;
Redemption songs.
– Redemption Song by Bob Marley
Cinderella, she seems so easy
“It takes one to know one,” she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he’s moaning
“You Belong to Me I Believe”
And someone says, “You’re in the wrong place my friend
You better leave”
And the only sound that’s left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row
– Desolation Row by Bob Dylan
There's more but these are the ones that just popped into my head.
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

Listening to you,
I get the music.
Gazing at you,
I get the heat.
Following you,
I climb the mountains.
I get excitement at your feet.
Right behind you,
I see the millions.
On you,
I see the glory.
From you,
I get opinions.
From you,
I get the story.
“We're Not Gonna Take It” –the Who.
Well I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola.
“Lola” –the Kinks
Long as I remember
Rain been comin' down
Clouds of mystery pourin'
Confusion on the ground
Good men through the ages
Tryin' to find the sun
And I wonder, still I wonder
Who'll stop the rain.

Wow!! What beautiful lyrics you have posted! And the best, I don't remember those songs so I'm definetly checking them.
My favorite U2 song: Stay (Far away so close). My favorite line is “Stay, and the day will keep it's trust, stay, and the night would be enough”.
About Creedance Clearwater Revival, this line from “Wrote a song for everyone”, it's so melancolic and beautiful “Saw myself a going, down to war in June. All I want, All I want is to write myself a tune.”

Adding another one:
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The truth will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
–Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.

I just remember one of my favorite opening lines in a song. In few words you get the idea of the lyrics from this Neil Diamond song.
Love on the rocks,
ain't no surprise
just pour me a drink
and I'll tell you some lies
got nothing to lose
so you just sing the blues all the time.

A bunch of great songs listed so far, Redemption Song is one of my all time favorites. “Won't you help to sing…” definitely one of the most uplifting lines.
“I'm picking up good vibrations, she's giving me excitations.”
“You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy” Bob Dylan – Masters of War
“Sittin here restin my boooones
And this lonliness won't leave me aloooone
Yes, it's 2,000 miles I rooooamed
Just to make this dock my hoooome” Otis Redding – (Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay
“Am I blue, ain't these tears in my eyes, telling you?” Billie Holiday – Am I Blue?
“It's been too hard living
And I'm afraid to die
I don't know what's up there
Beyond the sky” Sam Cooke – A Change Is Gonna Come
“Feel Good Music, I've been told, is good for your body, and good for your soul” Hey Pocky Way – The Wild Tchoupitoulas

I love the lyrics of “Sound of Silence” by Simon&Garfunkel:
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
'Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence.
“Fools” said I, “You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach to you.”
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
in the words that it was forming.
And the sign said, “The words of the prophets
are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.”
And whisper'd in the sounds of silence.
It's enigmatic, evocative and kind of scary, with it's aethereal aura.
I'd like to say "thank you" on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition.

All the ones I thought of initially have been posted already.
An honourable mention to The Prophet's Song by Queen, which would have been the single from A Night At the Opera if not for Bohemian Rhapsody.
Oh oh people of the earth
Listen to the warning the seer he said
Beware the storm that gathers here
Listen to the wise man
I dreamed I saw on a moonlit stair
Spreading his hand on the multitude there
A man who cried for a love gone stale
And ice cold hearts of charity bare
I watched as fear took the old men's gaze
Hopes of the young in troubled graves
'I see no day' I heard him say
So grey is the face of every mortal
Oh oh people of the earth!
'Listen to the warning' the prophet he said
For soon the cold of night will fall
Summoned by your own hand
Ah ah children of the land
Quicken to the new life take my hand
Fly and find the new green bough
Return like the white dove
He told of death as a bone white haze
Taking the lost and the unloved babe
Late too late all the wretches run
These kings of beasts now counting their days
From mother's love is the son estranged
Married his own his precious gain
The earth will shake in two will break
And death all round will be your dowry
Oh oh people of the earth
Listen to the warning the seer he said
For those who hear and mark my words
Listen to the good plan
Oh oh oh oh and two by two my human zoo
They'll be running for to come
Running for to come out of the rain
Oh flee for your life
Who heed me not let all your treasure make you
Oh fear for your life
Deceive you not the fires of hell will take you
Should death await you
Ah people can you hear me?
And now I know and now I know
And now I know and now I know
That you can hear me
And now I know and now I know
And now I know Now I know
Now I know now I know
Now I know now I know
Now I know
The earth will shake in two will break
Death all around around around around
Around around around around
Now I know now I know
Now I know now I know
Now I know
Wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo wo

God gave you grace to purge this place
And peace all around may be your fortune
Oh oh children of the land
Love is still the answer take my hand
The vision fades a voice I hear
Listen to the madman!
But still I fear and still I dare not
Laugh at the madman!
(I cut out bits of the vocal canon so it didn't take up so much space).

This is a song from an Argentine band, Divididos. This song is “Sisters” (the only song they wrote in English). The above video is from an live album.
Sisters
Through the course of an embrace
Our sisters felt a striking hand
Their fear was raised by the light of day
Their quiet rage sleeps with them tonight.
And they say…
We have a reason to ban our heart
We have a reason to change our mind.
Sister midnight, sister moon
Like me so much don't think I'll see them soon.
Through the course of an embrace
Our sisters felt a striking hand
Their fear was raised by the light of day
Their quiet rage sleeps with them tonight.
And they say…
We have a reason to ban our heart
We have a reason to change our mind.
Sister midnight, sister moon
Like me so much don't think I'll see them soon.

One of my favorite songs of all time.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes,
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Moments so dear.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights
In cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure
A year in the life?
How about love?
How about love?
How about love? Measure in love
Seasons of love. Seasons of love
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes!
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Journeys to plan.
Five hundred twenty-five thousand
Six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life
Of a woman or a man?
In truths that she learned,
Or in times that he cried.
In bridges he burned,
Or the way that she died.
It's time now to sing out,
Tho' the story never ends
Let's celebrate
Remember a year in the life of friends
Remember the love!
Remember the love!
Seasons of love!
Oh you got to got to
Remember the love!
You know that love is a gift from up above
Share love, give love spread love
Measure measure your life in love.

I mentioned this song earlier today in another thread. Here are my favorite lyrics from that song…
If you smile at me, I will understand
'Cause that is something everybody everywhere does
in the same language.

Speaking of CSN (and sometimes Y)
We are stardust, we are golden,
We are billion year old carbon,
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden.
By the time we got to Woodstock,
We were half a million strong
And everywhere was a song and a celebration.
And I dreamed I saw the bomber death planes
Riding shotgun in the sky,
Turning into butterflies
Above our nation.
–Woodstock
Well we all shine on like the moon, the stars, and the sun.
