Basic rules: 14 songs, all artists. Only music you could ever listen to for the rest of your life.
Mine:
1) I Saw Her Standing There
2) No Champagne Socialists – Arkells
3) Mushaboom – Feist
4) That’s Amore – Dean Martin
5) American Pie – Don McLean
6) While My Guitar Gently Weeps
7) My Body Is A Cage – Arcade Fire
8) Jungleland – Brice Springsteen and The E-Street Band
9) In My Life
10) I Don’t Know – Sheepdogs
11) 1 2 3 4 – Feist
12) A Rush of Blood To The Head – Coldplay
13) Where Have All The Good People Gone? – Sam Roberts
14) One For My Baby (And One More For the Road) – Frank Sinatra
And, the explantation (it makes everything so much clearer): #4,5,8 are family reminders that I couldn’t forget. # 2,3,7,10,11, and 13 are all Canadian classics of the last 8 years, and well, the Beatles’ songs were one of my personal favs of each of the songwriters. And, I couldn’t think of a more fitting song then what I hear ever night at the end of my favourite music broadcast. Ol’ Blue Eyes – take me away!

Penny Lane [love each and every one of those images, not to mention the soaring melody]
Saturday Night (Elton John) [gotta dance]

Suzanne (Leonard Cohen) [on a desert island got to be deep in thought sometimes]
Honorable mention: Since I’ve Been Loving You (Led Zeppelin) [some of Page’s best guitar], Bridge Over Troubled Waters (Simon and Garfunkel), When the Music’s Over (Doors) [fabulous ending], We Used To Know (Jethro Tull), Hesitation Blues (Hot Tuna) [great acoustic guitar and bass], California Dreamin’ (Mamas and Papas), Wicked Game (Chris Isaak), …..

Oh my god, so difficult. Since there’s no time limit on the songs themselves… I’ll choose all the hopelessly long songs. I’ll also refrain from choosing songs that I can reasonably approximate myself — just the ones that HAVE to be listened to in their original recorded glory. So here it is, the list of pieces of recorded music that I think I cannot live without:
1. ‘Echoes’ – Pink Floyd
2. ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond’ – Pink Floyd
3. ‘The Blue’ – David Gilmour
4. ‘Exogenesis: Symphony’ – Muse
5. ‘Marwa Blues’ – George Harrison
6. ‘Heroes’ – David Bowie
7. ‘No Quarter’ – Led Zeppelin
8. ‘It’s All Too Much ‘ – The Beatles
9. ‘Here, There And Everywhere ‘ – The Beatles
10. ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’ – Led Zeppelin
11. ‘A Pillow Of Winds’ – Pink Floyd
12. ‘Ashes to Ashes’ – David Bowie
13. ‘Glorious’ – Muse
14. ‘Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll)’ – George Harrison
Songs that didn’t make the Final Cut
‘Hey Bulldog ‘ – The Beatles
‘That’s The Way’ – Led Zeppelin
‘The Rain Song’ – Led Zeppelin (I can play it pretty well)
‘Unintended’ – Muse
‘Hyper Chondriac Music’ – Muse
‘Knights Of Cydonia’ – Muse
‘Little Wing’ – Jimi Hendrix
‘Across The Universe ‘ – The Beatles
A whole lot of Beatles, because I’ve memorised ’em
Pink Floyd, ditto (e.g., the entire DSotM album)
A long, long list of music that I enjoy greatly but could conceivably live without — the albums I selected the songs from, affiliated soloey things, etc. *cries*

Thanks! I was considering putting Trane’s Naima or Ascension, but I was listening to A Love Supreme at the time and was kind of overcome by the beauty of Psalm.

Apart from, ‘Jumping Jack flash’……Which for some reason I have to have, (and I’m not a Stones fan)….It’s hard for me to honestly ‘castaway’ so many songs.
I was pleased to see, ‘Little Lamb Dragonfly’ and “Since I’ve been Loving you’ getting mentions above.
Oooh…..I might have to have ‘Night and Day’ Hot Club de Paris’…….Stephan and Django
Walks towards you………..
