Most sources I look up say “get,” however I prefer “git.” It is not consistent among lyric websites though. I’ll check the official songbook tonight to see what it really is.

Very odd, I would have guessed “git” because it would make more sense definition wise. I wonder if it was that way in the lyrics as to not offend anyone.

Offline I hear ‘ih’ as in git and ‘eh’ as in get differently. The way John puts the emphasis on it, cursing him, he spits out the word GET. To *my* ears.

It’s definitely ‘GET’, but I think he means it as ‘git’. I suppose it must be a Liverpool thing, because in one of the outtakes (I think it’s one of the Anthology takes of Eight Days A Week ) one Beatle refers to another as ‘ya daft get’.
