Is anyone going to be watching this? They're announcing who's going to be hosting the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. It starts at 1:45am here, so I'm going to be buggered at school tomorrow, but ah well, it's worth it. Australia, Qatar and the US are the three candidates for the 2022 one (South Korea and Japan are both going for it as well, but they got it in 2002, so I very much doubt they'll get it) and Belgium-Netherlands, England, Portugal-Spain and Russia are the four bids for the 2018 one.
I'm hoping that England get the 2018, and Australia get the 2022 one.
Any thoughts?
I hate football. Anyone but England, please.

One of the reasons why it wasn't given to the USA for the upcoming World Cups is that I think not *too* long ago, in 1994. Soccer (footie) does have a following, at least when the World Cup is on. I only got into it, myself, however, when I lived overseas.

I”m really hoping it does not come to the US. I can't stand soccer. (football for the rest of the world) I can't watch soccer with out falling asleep after 10 minutes.
Darn't, only an 18.

I wouldn't say that no-one cared when the US had the World Cup: they actually set new attendance records, with an average of over 70,000 people at each game. Although, I remember reading that quite a few fans left after the first goal in each match because they thought a match ended when a goal is scored, but I digress.

I'd kind of like to think that they thought that the game was essentially over because they knew soccer was a low-scoring sport, not because they thought the game was literally over first thing. (Like overtime before the real game?) 🙂
