I haven’t watched the game, but heard it ended up being 7-1 for Germany? Oh man, Brasil is probably so embarrassed. What happened? I thought Brasil was such a great soccer country, and people predicted the finals to be between Brasil and Argentina. Neither will happen, as Brasil is out and I’m pretty sure we can beat Argentina tomorrow. Looks like we’ll be meeting Germany soon on the field.
I’m wondering what it’s like in our king’s house right now, as he’s Dutch and our queen is from Argentina.

Damn! That was brutal! A great football nation just destroyed!
It’ll be nothing like that in the final on Sunday, but the Netherlands (@Linde, good luck for tomorrow/tonight) or Argentina facing this German side, going into the final off the back of Brazil’s destruction, and with the confidence they must now have after that rout, I think it’s a German win. Unless, of course, we get another remarkable semi-final!

Lets not forget Brazil have to pick themselves up for third-place play-off on Saturday, will be some match if that is against Argentina.
I wonder how the crowd will react for that (it was incredible to hear the Brazilian fans cheer the Germans passing the ball to each other); what players who started against Germany will get a game, if any (Fred was getting slaughtered by the crowd); and whats going to happen in Brazil now they are out? There were some stories going around the web that there were disturbances in the stadium during the game but not seen anything more trustworthy.

He’ll be in hiding with all the other players after being an utter embarrassment in Brazil’s defence.

Did Brazil have a defence? I didn’t see any evidence of one!

They should have a silver and a bronze medal as in the Olympics.
Would add more value to the 3rd-4th place game. Didn’t even realize that game existed.

They do! The winners on Saturday will get third place medals, and the losers on Sunday will get second place medals. Just don’t think they call the medals Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Interesting. You commonly hear, ‘So and So won a silver at the Torino Olympics, Such and Such won a bronze in Sochi” etc… I’ve not heard, “This or that country won a 2nd in South Africa” – but I admit I haven’t been much of a fan.

Hardly anyone seems to remembers the losers in any football codes unless it is something spectacular. A few I remember or heard about are:
- Hungary losing 3-2 to Germany in the 1954 final after hammering them 8-3!!! in a group match and being 2-0 up in the final
- The Denver Broncos losing so many Superbowls in quick succession
- Netherlands appearing in 3 World Cup finals and losing them all (which is why I hope they win one this time as Denver did eventually)

It was a thorough knackering from Germany to Brazil! They scored 5 goals in 8 minutes! BOOM, BOOM, BOOOM! I did notice the Brazilian fans cheering for the Germans which was a disaster for Brazil! At least Brazil got 1! But still, that’s one of the worst losses in Brazil! And if you’re in Brazil right now, be careful because there may be riots!

I’ve heard there was a lot of arson (what a strange word) on the streets surrounding the stadium.
Also, what happened in previous games and finals is not a guarantee for this one. We lost the finals of 2010 to Spain, and now we beat them with 5-1 in the first round. Also, we’ve only lost once to Argentina in World Cup history, but we might lose tonight. We have only won once from Germany I believe, but we might beat them Sunday. The fact they’ve beaten Brazil with 7-1 doesn’t mean anything, except that Brazil probably played very badly and Germany played well. So far, we have played well too. Winning with 7-1 isn’t a guarantee for winning with a score like that in the future. We won from Spain with 5-1, but we haven’t been able to top that yet. It doesn’t say anything and we could beat them, and I hope we will, because after losing so many times in the finals, I think we deserve it.

All this rioting and stuff…I’m reminded of the words of Howard Cosell: “Remember, this is only a football game, no matter who wins or loses.”
meanmm, Marcelo was from Buenos Aires, so he’ll be supporting Argentina! Presumably.
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Absolutely. People just get mad and yell at the players (including my grandfather on my mother’s side, he’s from Colombia) and I think, “Really? It’s just a game! You’re thousands of miles away! What you say isn’t gonna change the game!”

Oh. So it was inside sabotage! No wonder he was so crap last night, he was actually Argentinian. Very clever tactics from him.

No! They were hiding in the corner sulking not doing anything! Mother says they should fire the coach! And I don’t want them saying that they did badly because Neymar was injured. Obviously, Neymar’s absense (how do you spell it!?) did have an effect, but really they just did horrible, no other way to put it!
